I was also sad to see this new Jira get filed without any investigation /
mention of previous efforts, and see a bunch of code fly in rapidly without
review. Slightly angry/frustrated even. A project of this magnitude needs to
more actively request community buy-in / vetting before charging quickly into
implementation. At least it is not too late, and I'm relieved to see Ishan /
Noble willing to embrace and build on the work of the POC. I confess I too
could have done better in requesting community buy-in: the whole nested-doc
umbrella issue ought to have been formally announced to the dev list to get
input on some of the major ideas. At least there was additional feedback on
the umbrella issue and there were very thorough code reviews.
Jan I was at your presentation in Vegas and was excited about the ideas put
forth there too. I will re-acquaint myself with your materials. Right now
I'm slightly overwhelmed with the places to look. Two big issues, this one
with many tasks, some of which have progress, not all of which show up in
comments... and I don't know which have branches and which not. Oh and your
massive outdated PR for the POC and a design doc I have yet to read. Eeeek!
As "only" a reviewer I will have my hands full.
One point I want to make RE hot-loading: I think this is very cool, makes for
a snazzy demo, yet in my mind is also not-essential for most users and so is
much lesser priority compared to the basics of plugins. That said, having that
identified as a wanted feature may influence the design to allow for this to
work so we don't paint ourselves into a corner.
