Hi Rugxulo, Teddy, by LiveCD, Teddy means a bootable CD which can be used without installation. Of course any other bootable CD, including some used for installing things to disk, would have the same issue.
I totally agree with you that this problem is NOT ABOUT DOS AT ALL: It instead seems to be about Asus BIOS, letting you set a LIST of drives to try for booting - but then showing only some error message if the FIRST drive on your list fails to boot. This IS stupid and you can shame them about it, but I think it is not possible for you to force them to fix that in any way: Their BIOS still boots any drive, as long as you put it FIRST. Also, it does not really matter whether we are talking about a classic BIOS or about UEFI boot or about automatically either. Asus will tell you which of the 2 standards they support - but NONE of them forces them to try the whole list of boot drives. If you really suffer that much, you can buy another brand and try to make others do the same. That could motivate Asus. But to be honest, most people just put their harddisk 1st on that list and use a "pick another drive to boot 1 time" hotkey to boot LiveCD or install CD or similar, on very rare occasions. If there was no way AT ALL to boot other disks, many users who want to use LiveCD or install a different operating system than the one installed by the manufacturer... THEN maybe a number of people would decide to avoid Asus. But Asus is not THAT broken. Regards, Eric PS: I believe it would be RELATIVELY easy for Asus to fix their BIOS to try all drives on the boot list, one after another :-) PPS: Can anybody check if similar "Asuses" have the same issue? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dive into the World of Parallel Programming The Go Parallel Website, sponsored by Intel and developed in partnership with Slashdot Media, is your hub for all things parallel software development, from weekly thought leadership blogs to news, videos, case studies, tutorials and more.
