| I don't see this particular problem - running Ubuntu Intrepid.

Me too. Ubuntu 8.10, ssh'ed to Debian testing. The konsole prompt is foobar
when I return from R/Rcmdr.

| I was able to get some clarifications: the debian and Gnome/KDE menus

| The debian menu file goes in /usr/share/menu, while the one I posted

Thanks for doing my homework for me :-) I think this is spot-on.

| didn't find any verifiable source stating the same.

These things take years to roll-in and out with 8000 source packages and
hundreds of maintainers...

| I'd suggest my .desktop to go upstream, since it's

Yes, that's what I thought too when I was out running an errand.

| Does shipping both in the debian package represent a problem to you,
| Dirk?

No, as one is "upstream" and the other one is the one we use. That's
perfectly fine.

I'll work on a bit in the next little while and will then have something to
test, and to give to John for inclusion upstream.

Nice and useful discussion everyone, and thanks for your help with the logo
file and all that!

Dirk
