I am not sure how familiar you are with how R packages work (outside of
Debian).  As an R package author, John simply has _no means whatsoever_ to
place files in /usr/bin or /usr/share/application.    

All he can do is include them so that distribution packagers like myself make
use of files like the desktop (or pixmap) file.
