Agreed 100%.
And one thing I found very interesting in Photivo is that there is coloured
icon (orange or red, I don't remember) that turns green when the program
has finished its calculation and the preview is ready to be seen. In
Darktable, there is a "en cours" message that flashes in the middle of the
screen, but it is not always very noticeable (depending on the picture) and
I'm never sure whether is has finished or not.
