Public bug reported:

Hello,

The standard gk107gl driver setting - in "additional drivers" - for the
quadro k420 I use causes the audio to break completely. No audio is
available at all. Then the resolution is set to 1024 x 768, I think.
Whatever the standard setting is. Basically, large icons and it appears
something from the early 2000s. It's also impossible to change the
resolution, as no other options are available in the drop-down menu.
While I've heard messing with Xrand in the console is a thing, I'd
rather not mess with that.

When changing to the X org X server setting in that same additional
'drivers' section, I'm able to use audio and change the resolution;
however, the audio cuts out several times a minute or even more
frequently depending on whatever is running. For example, using an
emulator like PCSX2 (a PlayStation 2 emulator using the "automatic"
setting in the renderer) is quite terrible causing almost second-by-
second audio cut-outs. Using another emulator, Simple 64, is even worse.
It's almost unusable and the entire thing basically lags to the point I
often have to mash buttons to get out of the thing. I tried Conkers Bad
Fur day and it gave me a bad fur day.

Video programs are frequently crashing, such as MPV Player. The Mpeg4
codecs were broken for some time for whatever reason, also. I could not
get certain video codecs working.

Another odd thing, is clicking on .mp4 files now take two double clicks.
Very strange...

When viewing videos with high bit rates (somewhere in the region of
50000 KBPS which a camera I use outputs from 2.7K videos) the video is
an absolute mess and lags so bad it's unwatchable. It looks like it's
running at around 10FPS, when the videos are 30FPS.

I've reinstalled a few times thinking that would solve it, but it
hasn't. I've had to do god knows how many partitions and wiping of
partitions, which is always fun.

What I would prefer, would be that the initial additional drivers
setting worked and that X org wasn't chosen.

In the last version (the first version I've ever used since I'm new to
Linux) I will say that screen tearing was unbelievably annoying when
videos were full-screened and I found it incredible that I had to go
into the Nvidia server settings to allow the full composition profile on
every log-in. If that's been fixed in the recent update, that's
fantastic, but please get this working if possible.

One more thing: I've tested another operating system - that intrusive
Windows 11 - and all programs work perfectly that require video and
audio. I tested Music Bee, a video editor known as VDSC and several
emulators. All work perfectly. So, the issue is with the latest updates
from July 17th, seemingly, not my GPU, which is getting on a little bit,
admittedly. I'm no expert in whatever update did this. You guys will
know better.

Finally, I'm a little disappointed I needed to create an account to
discuss this. I submitted a report yesterday and two earlier thinking
they were submitted and didn't realise an account was necessary.

Regardless, I hope this information is helpful. Not sure if you guys can
read my system name, but I was so frustrated by the 4th install that I
called it "useless operating system." Spur of the moment, maybe....
