- this makes my mouse freeze - i have to quit (using the game console)
As the command freezes my mouse I have to restart X

After reading around forums I tried adding to the grub kernel line -
iommu=memaper=3 - what excatly does this do ? I noticed that Aperture
was set to 256MB with this option - and I lost the 256MB..

the window controls to the right.
On previous ubuntu versions I would use the command

I just installed the kubuntu backports PPA on 15.10 (i.e plasma 5.5.4)
and the issue is resolved.

Out the box unity is still 1/2 the speed it should be (until you enable
unredirect fullscreen windows)

The phoronix benchmarks do not tally with what I see.
I have a nvidia 450 , I have just got a i5 CPU and its unity is still
unusable for games, ALL other desktops are fine.
The unigine benchmark for example is not only 50% slower it looks
terrible (i.e not disaplying correctly) unless I enable 'u

'Out of the box' Unity still has this issue.
i.e one of the best 3d bechmarking apps doesn't render correctly in
ubuntu (unity) it does in just about any other desktop...

So we have to wait until Unity 5.16.0 "SRU-2" before the fix in place
for Ubuntu 12.04 ? (i hope its before steam in launched for Linux..)

Ok a couple of things I have found out
Firstly this is not just 1 PC - I have an my new i5 / nvidia 450gts and
and older amd x2 4600/nvidia 8500 - completely different motherboard
types, etc - same issues.
gnome-session-fallback - gives the exact same issues. (unless I disable
compiz effects)

Really golad the issue has been taken so seriously.
I have not been using Unity because of the games related issues.

For Nvidia users the ONLY way to get a responsible experience in 3D apps
games is to enable
composite -> "unredirect fullscreen windows"
it fixes ALL performance issues - regardless of the ' Sync To Vblank'
setting ... It's the same speed as kde (with /without desktop effects),
xfce, lxde, etc
