Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The Bug is repeatable on both x86 + x86_64 Ubuntu 10.04 100% of the
time.

On a fresh 10.04 install using a Nvidia card, if you try to enable
desktop effects (i.e compiz) via the appearance menu - i.e click
'normal' you get prompted to install the binary Nvidia driver.

It installs a nvidia driver this, however after rebooting 3D is so slow
it is completely un-usable - the minimise compiz effect moves about 2fps
- games are far slower than mesa....

The reason: Is due to the wrong version of the nvidia driver being
installed - 173.14.22 - this does not work on my card - Nvidia 8500

However : If I install nvidia driver using 'administration' -> 'Hardware
drivers' - then reboot it is fine - i.e it is installs correct version :
195.36.

So it is the trigger that installs the driver - by activating compiz
(desktop-effects) - that is wrong.

This will cause many new users who just happen to install the driver
that way to assume that 3D doesn't work on their card.

An easy fix would be for the trigger to just go to the standard menu
option - 'administration' -> 'Hardware drivers'
