deleting ~/.gconf is not a solution after all:
it came back,
today, one week later, gconf-2 pushes cpu to 20%.
this is bad.
i cannot always delete ~/.gconf, because i will have to reconfigure everything

thanks for advice, i followed it,
went to adobe's site and got newest flashplugin for 64bit,
removed all flash-pkgs and the nasty nspwrapper,
created a folder in /usr/lib called flashplugin-nonfree and extracted it there.
made simlinks to it under the plugi-folders of mozilla, firefox and iceweasel
thank you very much for your swift response!
in the meantime I was checking the behavior of the CPU with the new 64bit
flashplugin,
while with the former set of npwrapper and flashplugin the CPU would shoot up
to 60-80% on 2GHZ,
it now seems to stay on 800MHZ, indeed, even-though it shows 60% CP
oh and of course, npviewer.bin is gone and with it lots of nasty
"killall npviewer.bin" commands...

i had 20%-30% constant cpu on gconf-2 like all my collegs above, after fresh
install ubuntu ibex with seperate /home partition, which caries all the
configurations since feisty...

hello, to inform you on what i understood is really the case:
-on hardy we have a package which we need to run nearly any app on ubuntu
called libcairo.
this package was compiled with --glitz enabled.
glitz renders the graphics through the gpu of your 3d-graphic-card, like nvidia.
which means, wh
i am using now the newest nvidia prop. driver 177.83 from nvidia-site.
fresh ibex i installation.
openoffice is nearly unusable with compiz enabled.
skype got better, but now and than shows some similar symptoms.
from my observation this has something to do with non refreshing graphics,
so in open

this driver does it very well.
no problems at all so far, better overall performance...
openoffice is working fine now, skype too.

as i understand it from my observations is that the whole application OO will
not refresh its graphics.
this causes buttons to appear and disappear, but also leaves the process-bar on
the status bar once it is ready. to have the satus-bar refreshed, i need to

first of all: the pm-sleep and pm-hibernate do not work for me,
instead i use suspend scripts in /etc/acpi/ folder, they work perfect.
as a consequence i added the extra-scripts in the /etc/acpi/resume.d.
when i put laptop to hibernate,

i managed to get pm-sleep working by doing the following (tip from launchpad):
$ sudo su
$ echo "SUSPEND_MODULES=\"uvcvideo\"" >/etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules
$ chmod +x /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules
now, after suspend with pm-suspend, the changes suggested above had
effect.

UPDATE:
actually it works now, but just with the intel 915 graphic-card the sleep
function works fine...
my laptop has two graphic-cards, the other one is nvidia 6600 go, and now it
goes to sleep after the cha
Well, as i now it, it was always eject option on right-click, in edgy and in
feisty.
eject in feisty didn't work after an upgrade and after another upgrade one week
ago, option eject is replaced by unmount.
under terminal the option sudo eject /dev/blabla works fine.

i have a FZ 31 m.
if u look arround in forums, u will see, that nobody succeeded to get the fn
keys to work,, i myself tried lots and tons of solutions, but none of them seem
to apply..

sony_acpi does not work for changing brightness.
it leaves /proc/acpi/sony/ empty after modprobing...
nothing at all works to change brightness behalf a decent sunglass.

I am running ubuntu hardy fresh install on a new sony vaio with nvidia 8400gt
m: nvidia-glx-new from repo:
i had no shadows.

since gutsy, switching to vt by pressing ctrl+alt+F1-6 results in black screen.
removing vga=791 does not change a thing.

this worked for me perfectly:
ubuntu gutsy framebufer fix for switching to VT:
1. sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
add following lines:
fbcon
vesafb
2. sudo update-initramfs -u
3. sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer

i got both cards to work WITH openGL!!
like a dream: auto-recognized on boot-up, automatically set of the wright

i followed the same tip as Pasi Savolainen and the delaying menus thing is gone.
but it looks not nice when starting up, makes me remember my first winter-car
experience:
you turn arround the key, the car gasps and gasps and gasps and hey it
started up!
