I checked the sound by starting up the game Gweled. The last time I had
problems - with the system sounds - it worked even though the logout and

Just to let you know - my problem was fixed also. I reinstalled because
of some other things that wouldn't uninstall fully. (They were part of
the Go Play package.) Now, I have no problems connected to bluez.

I am having the same problems with Intrepid Alpha 5, after having had no
problems with sound with either Gutsy or Hardy. When I first boot up, I
get a sound before my login screen comes up - but after that, no system
sounds at all. Other sounds come through OK. When I go to System >
Preferences
It is not reproducible in 8.10. I was hoping to wait on upgrading to
9.04 until a few more bugs are fixed, so I haven't tried that. The
problem appears to be fixed in 8.10.

Even with the change in the Nvidia driver, my screen is still set to the
wrong resolution (the real one is 1440 x 900, as opposed to the 1368 x 768 -

will open and load the background pictures but when I select a

After I rebooted, I also noted that I lost my /dev/sdb drive (external
My Book). The last time I had to configure grub-pc, I had it configured
on the My Book as well as on the internal hard drive. I realized that
it didn't need to be on the My Book, so I checked only the /dev/sda

Just to let you know how serious this bug is - it froze my terminal and
I didn't know any way to get Gnome up and running. I reinstalled Karmic
and found that on the first reboot Nautilus would not display my desktop

When I open firefox, the cursor moves with my mouse but when I click,
nothing happens. I have to go to the top of the screen and click on
one of the headers - history, for instance- and then click again to let
firefox know I don't want to use that particular header. Then an

When I tried to run gtkorphan it gave me a message about not being able
to capture the mouse, and then quit. After that, I got a message that
root terminal had shut down. The message is attached.
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise).

I inserted a Bejeweled 3 CD into my cdrom drive expecting to be able to
use wine to install it. It did not install - and I found that I could
not locate the install executable in /cdrom. Upon looking further, I
