I discovered that there is some sort of disconnect between the hardware
audio control (the buttons above the keyboards) vs the software
controls.
The software controls seemed unable to do anything until I pressed one
of the buttons above they keyboard -- somehow that undid the mute.

I just upgraded to Intrepid and am seeing this. System would come up
and set the name to "localhost.localdomain" and then "localhost" even
though I had a name in /etc/hostname.
Worse, my X session is started under the name "localhost.localdomain"
and the hostname changes. After the name changes,
it is reproducible still (in intrepid) by using the following commands

Trying to suspend or hibernate on my x60 (after an upgrade to edgy from
dapper, where it worked) fails.
That is, it appears to suspend (the machine shuts down and the suspend
LED flashes) but it won't come back up.
I experience the same thing with hibernation.

I am having this problem with a VPN that I set up.
This is a VPN for the express purpose of connecting to a single host in

I took the steps there for adapting my dusl-headed layout (remove

When I start up a freshly installed feisty session on this laptop, the
keyboard seems not to be working. Doing things that don't rely on X
(like using Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to another terminal) seem to work ok,
but even other virtual terms seem hesitant about taking input.

updated to A32 (from A31) and that seems to have cleared it up.
Also, Windows wasn't behaving smoothly (contrary to my prior claim).
There were lots of extraneous keyboard events in Windows such that I
doubt a Windows user would blame Ubuntu install for this particular
problem (or indeed, use that

(Sorry for the delay, was out of town.)
Last night, the problem appeared to have disappeared. At first, I
thought it was because the wireless card (which requires a binary
driver) had been removed.
That was when I found out the problem is most pronounced in, for
example, the gtksu and gdm dialog
(just thought it might be important to add that the usb keyboard was not
attached for the irq tests.)

I suspect udev is not the only source of the leak. I removed
pulseaudio-module-udev (because valgrind wouldn't run with it), but I
was still seeing leaks. The leaking was dramatically slower, but still
there. Valgrind and pulseaudio output attached.
