I just found out some more info. I am actually still having this
problem, however the extra files are created in my home directory
whenever I create a launcher on the Gnome desktop. I just wiped my
Ubuntu drive and did a full install of Gutsy, and even after all updates

Sorry! I forgot my home computer wasn't the only computer I have Gutsy
installed on. I installed the experimental plugins package on this PC
and I have this feature now. This is going to be in the final version
of Ubuntu, correct? Yeah this can be closed.

On both my laptop and desktop after the updates today I was able to
update my menu fully using kmenuedit without any problems. If others on
the subscription list for this bug can confirm this, I think this is
fixed.

Asking the user to modify the groot line is not a good idea either, the
script that installs Ubuntu should be smart enough to do this without
requiring user input.

If I move an icon within kmenuedit by rightclicking it then clicking
paste, it's working just like it should be.
If I move an icon by dragging it with my left mouse button to another
location, that seems to be when this bug manifests itself.
