I've been fighting the same issue. I've upgraded 11 machines from 9.10
to 10.04. They were all upgrades and not fresh installs. In most cases
after the upgrade, the printers did not show up. I would reinstall cups
and everything seemed fine. But what I'm finding is that randomly on at

Yes, this workaround does work!! Thank you. I had read about a PPD
file for cups-pdf in the cups-pdf site, but didn't know where to find
it.
I think the issue is that the PPD file never gets installed as the
driver for cups-pdf when cups-pdf in installed, not that some upgrade
wipes it out.

The title there was put in place automatically. There was initially a
shutdown problem also, but my display was my primary concern. I tried
using the terminal to purge the ATI driver, and then reinstalled it, but
there wasn't anyway I could get anything to display other than my
background picture.
I have a secondary computer at the office which is not used frequently.
I was using it the last few days last week. It had a clean, updated
install of 12.04 64 bit. The video performancwe was very laggy. So I
took a look at what it had for video. It was nvidia, and thew 295-40
driver was installed.
I will need to get back to you tomorrow. That computer is in my office.

desktop with a GForce 9500 card. It works perfectly fine with the 295-40
driver. Two computers, one desktop and one laptop, have integrated
Nividia graphics. I'm running Nouveau on both. The resolution is
automatically, corrrect

in, click on the little gear in the top right of the login box, and

message that the IcedTea is out of date. All updates from Ubuntu have
been applied. I have openjdk-6-jre version 6b24.1.11.3-1ubuntu0.12.04.1.
The plugin is IcedTea-plugin1.2-2ubuntu1. Shouldn't this be updated
through Ubuntu?

I upgraded 4 computers using the drivers from swat 4 to 6 weeks ago.
Three have 295.49, and one has 295.53. The 295.40 driver was nvidia-
current. The swat drivers replace the driver in nvidia-current, which

In 13.04, when trying to play any midi in the default payer, Rythumbox, or

This is the third attachment. It is a copy of the same deed printed with
Ubuntu 12.10 today. Please note that the time stamp does print on the
bottom of the pages just as it did in the second attachment, but the
rest of the page, which is a tiff image, just shows up as blank.

One additional piece of information. If I print to a printer instead of
cups in Ubuntu 12.10, I get the blank pages from the printer with just
the time stamp on the bottom, the same as if I print to cups, so it is
more than jsut a cups issue.

I presently have Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit installed on the computer I had the
issues with. This was an upgrade from 11.04 through the Ubuntu
repositories. I've had no issues with 11.10 not shutting everything down.

Yesterday the kernel through the normal updates was updated to
2.6.38-10. The problem still exists.
