I have a related problem running Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit trying to install a Konica-Minolta 1400w printer. When I connect the printer, Ubuntu sees then printer, and proceeds to install it. Then I get a message it is installed and the printer is shown in the available printers. However, if I try to print a test page or any document, nothing happens. In synaptic, if I type in Konica, it shows that min12xxw is installed. The only way I could get the printer to print was to go to openprinting.org, and downloading the most current PPD, going to Printers, selecting the 1400w, right clicking to bring up properties, clicking change under the make and model, under Choose Driver, selecting Provide PPD, and then selecting to replace the existing driver with the new PPD. Then the printer worked perfectly. I replicated all of the above on a second computer also with Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit. It appears there is a bug in the min12xxw in the Ubuntu repository, or something goes wrong in the install, and the new PPD from openprinting.org needs to be installed to correct the problem.
