It has been caused by the xorg update. I have an Radeon HD 6900M card
for which the new xorg and AMD driver is a bad combination yet. I needed
to reinstall the 12.04.01 LTS without updates to be able to run the
computer.

Well, while Firefox is running and for example a Facebook tab is open,
even if I opened up that Facebook tab from Dash, It doesn't "connect"
the dash Facebook button to the Firefox tab. Dash seems to not know that
I've a web app, any one of them, open in a tab in Firefox.

trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:
sudo apt-get clean

but the blank screen is still there. I'm using ubuntu 12.10. I don't

I also got in on Ubuntustudio 12.10 and the workaround suggested by Serhiy
Kuznyetsov worked for me. In the live session started after the error, on a
terminal I typed:
sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntustudio
and then I was successful in installling the system by the icon on the deskt
