In my case it's exactly the same as described by @json684 in post 8 (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-
manager/+bug/44058/comments/8 )
the value in /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state toggles rather than reflecting
the true state.
I'm wondering if this means the bug is in the
Same issue present on Toshiba l505-2997 laptop. Have tried using
sleepbtn.sh, sleep.sh and lid.sh but none overcome the issue. Closing
the lid does not register an event in lshal. Strangely, if you force
suspend manually and then log back in, the laptop will suspend upon lid
close, but just one
Is anyone in a position to change this actually reading these posts?

this behaviour has changed for me since I last posted a month or so ago.
If I change the settings for AC power to "Suspend" on lid close, then
that's what works for both. Same goes for "blank screen". g-p-m only
seems to take note of the AC setting, regardless of power state.

I confirm this issue on my hp nc 6120 laptop with ubuntu karmic is
installed on. Suspending from log out menu works flawless each and every
time. However, it suspends with the lid button just for a fresh boot
session. On the session after resume (either from suspend or from
hibernate) , when the li
This is broken for me from bootup until a time that I manually suspend.
If I first suspend via hotkey or panel menu, after resuming the
functionality returns and the laptop will suspend when lid closed.
If I don't force a suspend by some other method, I can repeatedly close
the lid without trigger
Strangely, this bug has now gone away on my netbook. No updates, no
changes, nothing different between it working now and not working a
couple of days ago.

@Toby:
I forgot about that - because of the slow SSD in the netbook, I usually mount
/var/log (and a couple of others) as tmpfs, but hadn't done that on this
particular install so that logs were intact.
According to /var/log/dpkg.log, the updates were tzdata, libwbclient0,

Gareth, you can check to see which packages were installed by looking at the

Try /var/log/dpkg.log and /var/log/aptitude.log

I'm seeing this issue on a netbook - Acer Aspire One - on 32-bit Karmic
Netbook Remix, but only since an apt-get update last night. Prior to
that it worked fine.
The symptoms are that the lid closure is detected and the suspend script
triggered - at which point, as far as I can tell, it immediate
Fresh boot and after suspend, doesn't matter.
