@Robert Persson: Exactly. It survived a couple reboots while still working properly. However, I thought the problem had returned this morning. Turns out, I had closed the lid before gnome-power-manager updated the power status. I pulled the cord, then immediately closed the lid, and nothing happened. If I wait for the notification that I switched to battery power before closing the lid, it suspends correctly. I don't know if that's a problem for anyone else, and I don't _think_ that was my problem before, but it's worth checking.
