I've found that the problem doesn't occur while running XFCE - I installed xubuntu-desktop and with no change to my hardware I've had no recurrence of the problem. So much for the idea that it's a hardware issue. Is there a way I could try out the GNOME components one at a time to identify the so

I see a similar problem on Karmic (9.10). I installed Karmic using a wireless keyboard/mouse (using an IOGear 2.4 GHz multimedia keyboard) and had absolutely no problems when using the graphical installer. However, after the system starts the desktop (I have auto-login turned) on, I have less tha

I ran lshal --monitor to see whether that would produce anything useful. It gave no output except for "Start monitoring devicelist" and a line of hyphens, until the problem occurred,at which point it gave: 14:27:00.381: usb_device_46d_c505_noserial_if1_logicaldev_input condition ButtonPressed = m

This bug is still present in Karmic, and adding "AutoAddDevices" "off" no longer works around it. Switching to a VT and back still temporarily fixes the problem, but only if it hasn't become so severe that the system is completely unresponsive. I'm not sure what you would need to reproduce the bu

After reading http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing- Lists/FreeBSD/stable/2009-02/msg00306.html I've stopped using HAL to detect my mouse and keyboard. I added the following to my xorg.conf: Section "ServerFlags" Option "AutoAddDevices" "off" EndSection And then uncommented the line

Sadly this is still happening in Jaunty beta. It's making the system unusable as the GTK apps use up 100% of the CPU finding and losing and finding the keyboard again. I'm happy to turn on whatever debug options are needed to diagnose the problem - please could someone get back to me about this b

BTW, I'm not saying that signal strength is unrelated - it just seems that low signal strength causes the GUI to believe it has no keyboard, so the components that depend on the presence of a keyboard become inactive; however when signal strength increases, the GUI fails to recognise that the keybo

It's definitely not just a positioning thing - moving the keyboard around can cause the keyboard to stop working, but never to start. The ctrl-alt thing happens even if the keyboard is on a flat, unmoving surface like the floor, and it doesn't work with similar key patterns such as ctrl-shift. I'

I have a similar keyboard/mouse (the cordless desktop S 510), and I often have the same problem. Mine is nothing to do with ubuntu, it's just the poor signal strength of the logitech cordless desktop products. You mention that pressing ctrl+alt+del will restore functionality. The key to that is
