This bug is still present in Karmic, and adding "AutoAddDevices" "off" no longer works around it. Switching to a VT and back still temporarily fixes the problem, but only if it hasn't become so severe that the system is completely unresponsive.
I'm not sure what you would need to reproduce the bug, since I don't know how much of it depends on my software and hardware setup.
