I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS version and there is a screen session. The
session is alive, it has a program running which is generating files. I
can also see it on the process list (ps aux):
sampie1377 0.0 0.0 87140 1736 ?Ss marras03 0:00
SCREEN -R -d
However,
The crash has occurred only once. Unfortunately, I don't know how to
reproduce the problem. The server had been running with high
computational load for several days. Perhaps that was contributing to
the problem.

The server has always been 14.04 LTS, so no big kernel upgrades. There
was however an installation of a new VM machine ongoing. Perhaps
something in that caused the host server to crash.

has not been updates for unity since I reported the bug.

Is there a work around that would allow login to desktop when this issue
occurs, perhaps entering some command to text console?
