Hi all,
I am planning to purchase a sound card to be used (primarily) for
creating music. If anyone has had experience-- good or bad-- with any of
the drivers or hardware, I would appreciate advise. Is ALSA a good place
to go for drivers?

Hello, all.
I seem to have lost the volume control for the MIDI part of my
soundcard. I know it used to be there when I ran aumix, but it is no

still plays full throttle. Everything else seems to work fine (except

I am having problems playing midi files. Playmidi now gives the error
below. Used to work ok, but stopped (why?). Info below is what I think
you sound knowledgable people might need to help.
Configuration: RH6.2, AWE64 Gold sound card.
I have remade the devices in /dev, and have used

Interesting is that I have this midi module loaded also {OK} some time
ago. But, after some other reasons I had to re-install RedHat. Before
doing that, I have put on paper details from /etc/conf.module

Hi,
I finally came to it. I dropped in my SB AWE64 that have been laying
around for ages. :-)
I run sndconfig. It correctly identified my card. I could hear Linus
talk. :-) I could hear the midi part as well. I've looked into the
conf.modules and the additions looks good.

Everyone,
This is off topic, but I've tried Linux sound mailing lists and there
is no activity. I've also tried the Sound and Midi for Linux

How do I configure midi support into the kernel? I just recompiled

Elliot,
Thanks for the response. I want to be able to play midi files (hymns,
particularly). I have a bunch of them, but when I try to play them (and I
tried the exact syntax you provided in your email), playmidi displays the

Guys and gals,
Forgive me if I sound redundant with this request. I never did receive a
response to this question, and wonder if I just missed the answer. Can
anybody help me out with getting midi to work under Redhat 6.0? My

Here is what it tells me. I'm not up on this operating system yet, so I

I have a MIDI/Audio workstation currently running Win95. I would like to try
