Elliot,

Thanks for the response. I want to be able to play midi files (hymns,
particularly). I have a bunch of them, but when I try to play them (and I
tried the exact syntax you provided in your email), playmidi displays the
following:

[bill@localhost bill]$ playmidi -e
/usr/local/unpack/www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/7524/hymns/spiritofthelivinggod.mid
Playmidi 2.4 Copyright (C) 1994-1997 Nathan I. Laredo, AWE32 by Takashi
Iwai
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
For details please see the file COPYING.

It hangs for a while, during which time a VERY VERY faint clicking /
humming sound can be heard it I turn the speakers all the way up, but no
music comes forth.

I also want to be able to hook up my Quickshot Midi Composer keyboard via
Linux.

All this works under Win95.

Thanks again for your help,

Bill Johnson
