I always turn off everything that IT can turn off - or suspend...then
again, as long as the BIOS is setup properly for the APM/ACPI, then all
should be well and good now - have you tried doing a "poweroff" from the
console to see if it properly shuts the box down?

Have you checked the BIOS settings in the machines to make sure that APM
is enabled properly and that the BIOS is set for NO to PNP OS?
(and that APM and ACPI is running on either?)

The script editing was pretty straight forward. I just changed the following

"Linuxconf" doesn't play very nicely with RH8, but it's fairly easy to
manually edit the network script
our /etc/modules.conf and remove the module
from there first - then reboot - let kudzu "find the new hardware"
again; then once you're happening with that, you should be able to get
your networking back in short order.

Hi,
I tried to install a service using a wrapper script to run a java
application in the background. It would appear that it doesn't run in the
background so therefore when I boot linux now. It stops at this service.
How can I rectify this? I've got GRUB bootloader and RH 9.0 installed.

I have been having a nightmare time getting this to SMC card to work.
Can anybody maybe give me a few pointers on how to even get the computer
to recognize the card?
It is a SMC 2435W and a IBM thinkpad a30 running Redhat 9.0. Should i

It is doubtful that any tweak will work much fo ryou. What the problem is
is very simple. You need to either change your NIC card or make sure the
driver is correct and uptodate. I have had problems with linux and
broadband connections becuase of the wrong NIC cards. I would highly
