On my servers here at home, they all boot with runlevel 3, and I have a
specifically created script that fires up vncserver on each; I could
just use the basic configuration and setup in editing the
/etc/sysconfig/vncservers file, but I'm picky like that - so I call the
script from the /etc/rc.d/rc.local instead - so that I get the
resolution I want, the colour depth I want and yadda yadda yadda...

Is that what you mean?

Because you do not have to be running anything "xwindows" on the server
- at least locally on the server...and vncviewer does just fine in a
trusted environment...
