with 128mb ram allocated but with 256mb ram the PII was down to
859MBps. I do not think it is a very accurate way to test performance in
term what I am looking for but it gave me an idea what is going on.

keep 256mb even if Windows 98 is feeling overwhelmed with amount of ram and
Linux is taking it well even with a tiny performance drop.

I do not have any problem with LBA active while running Linux or Windows. I
am currently running 6.2 and I ran as far back as 6.0 and works well under
LBA mode.

I had done so on my evaluation system. I installed RH 7.0 without
installing KDE 1.1.2 then I installed KDE 2.0 fresh and it simply would not
start up. I may have a bad copy so I am going to try the RH 6.2 version and
see if it is better.

You would want to disable boot sector virus checking because I had the
same problem it hampers my installation of Win98 and would hamper my
installation of any Linux. Anytime you install OS's they almost always
modify the boot sector.

appropriate driver "Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro". It did not work so since the
probe auto selected "3dlabs Permedia2" so I left it as a driver for my video
card and it works great. If possible try "3dlabs Permedia2"

than in 7.0. If I decided to upgrade my systemto 7.0, is there any way
I can keep the old version of RH PPP dialer? The new PPP dialer seems

There is two different speed for different kind if CD's. My cd writer
writes on CD-RW disks at 4x and writes on CD-R at 8x and Reads any disks at
32x. It depends on the CD-R's and CD-RW's speed capabilities. I have not
yet seen CD-RW disk capable writing at 6x but seen CD-R at 12x.

It appears that K6/2 identifies itself as 586 not 686. When I install RH
Linux it defaults to 586 while I installed in my wife's PII and
identifies as 686. Even though I never compiled the Kernel before, I
still believe you should use 586.

installer seems to assume you have a very high performance monitor or vice
versa. It might work better if you have a brand monitor but With my Hitachi

I've tried the old dos 2.11, 5.0-6.22, Win3.1, 95, 98, OS/2(not much), RH
Linux (just started last year). Win95osr1 was the most pathetic os I've
tried. Never tried nor planned yet to ever use Win2000 or NT (samething but
