You would need to set the permissions. When you copy files from your home
directory to another directory not under your home directory then you would
not be able to do so without setting the permission.

I ran through some pain trying to set up my modem USR sportster 56K voice to
work under Linux. One way is using the computer bios to set the IRQ for the
PNP (Plug and Play) modem which I found to cause problem with my SB32
soundcard. So, I put the bios back to the original setting and thanks to my
modem which is not a Winmodem and it has jumpers so I hard configure it as
IRQ3, COM2 and works like a cherry and my soundcard did not throw any fits.
If you have PNP Winmodem then you would have a problem. Someone else on
this redhat list could help you with that I never experienced fixing such a
problem because I never wanted to buy Winmodem for I used to use my modem
with built in controller under dos which would not have been possible if it
is Winmodem which does not have built in controller and fortunately my modem
benefitted for Linux. I do know there is such thing as Linmodem which is
the software that makes your Winmodem works under Linux but there are
limitation such as what brand modem you have if you have Winmodem and I do
not know how to install that since there is no need.
