If it works well for you, then it would obviously be my setup problem. It is true
FAT16 is MSDOS
but FAT32 is also MSDOS since Win95osr2. Win95osr2 has a choice for you to select
between FAT16
which will be readable by older dos and Win95osr1, and FAT32 is not readable by
older dos and
Win95osr1. Win98 fdisk utility uses both FAT16 and FAT32. I setup my first two
partitions as FAT32,
formatted it then go back to fdisk and answering "N" for FAT32 support then setup
my third partition as
FAT16. FAT16 has giant clusters compared to FAT32. So their format are not
identical. For 1.6 gig
worth of files I was able to claim approx 200megs of free space back using FAT32
rather than FAT16.
I originally had 3 FAT32 partitions and no FAT16 partitions. The problem is in the
installer, I selected
one of those FAT32 partitions using disk druid and made the mount point as /dos and
I attemted it on
the first partitons and later 2nd or 3rd. Then disk druid accepted it even listed
it as FAT32, BUT when
installation is complete then I noticed that the partition was already mounted then
when I tried to read
it was purely blank with nothing on it. Later I changed the 3rd partition as FAT16
using either msdos
fdisk or disk druid then back to installation making it mount point as /dos again
then when complete,
I was able to see all the listings in that drive (FAT16). Later I had been
attempting to mount FAT32,
but still no listing. Win2000 would not have FAT but rather NTFS. I don't really
care for Win2000
since it will not benefit me anyway except make a big unecessary hole in my
pocket. I will just keep
on trying different things. Also try editing /etc/fstab. Thanks much for help.
