Sounds like DNS. Are you using PAP to dial in via Kppp. If
not there is an area within the setup of kppp that you can
place you ISP's DNS servers so that it can resolve the
address, or even if your using PAP go ahead and place the

Did you try the Linux drivers from Nvidia? They have drivers for X 4.0.1
and 4.0.2 although the only way I got their GLX to work with 4.0.2 was to
use the Suse RPM which seems to work ok. There is a kernel RPM and the

Doing netstat -ap shows that port 1080 is not really activated but
it is portsentry litening to the port for a scan. I was getting
puzzled as many services were disabled in /etc/services and I a
tried to minimize services started by inetd with /usr/sbin/setup.

After unsuccessful tries to get a S3 864 working with RH 7.0 I broke down
and got sth more modern. Although it is stated that this card is supported
by X 4.0 it didn't work right away. After studying xfree86.org I realized
that the GeForce 2 MX chipset is supported in X version 4.0.2

Someone is trying to get into your system thru portmapper. Shut it off!!

also if running
/etc/rc.d/init.d/nfslock stop
then disable them perminately if your not using them use /usr/sbin/ntsysv

have been block succesfully. I have a firewall installed. I have
tried to close as many services as possible. For sure some
services are running which should not due to a lack of knowledge
on my part.

Why didnt you just use rp3-config and add a new ISP entry with your moms
password and username??? then log in to the ISP as hers?? I would
imagine, that if you are using a decent ISP, that the problem is on their
end... i.e. you cant log in as user john and get mail from user mary's

All workstations should use that box as their default gateway. You could
plug the Cisco router directly into one of the interfaces to keep it
separate from the rest of your subnets. Keep in mind the other interfaces

I'm using the version of quota that came with RH7.0 (quota-2.00pre3-7) and
it's working just fine on my box. I've only set up one user for quotas,
on the /var filesystem (trying to keep the user's email file size down),
and it's working.

i've installed xcdroast 0.96 and I'm ready to burn. However xcdroast does
not detect my ATAPI cdrom with scsi emulation. This I have achieved by
telling the system in my linux.par file (I boot via loadlin) that my cd rom
is a scsi-ide device and placing the line
