XFree 4.1,0 Resolution problems

I just upgrade from XFree-3.3.6 to XFree-4.1.0 on my potato system and I seem to have lost screen resolutions. I used to run at 1280x1024 (apparantly interlaced according to my 3.3.6 config file), but I can't get XFree4 to go any higher than 1024x768 no matter what I have tried. I have lowered

XMMS, esd, and 2.4 kernel?

What do you mean "added the burner to the SCSI bus later"? You can't do that, can you? I mean, it has to be connected and on in order to be detected and used, doesn't it? The SCSI bus should be terminated correctly. the 50-pin connector is terminated by the DVD drive, and the UW chain (the HDs)
