I was trying to install the .debs of the newest Wine build on my Potato system running kernel 2.4.4, and when apt tries to actually install the .debs, I get this error:

error creating directory `./usr/share/doc/winesetuptk': No such file or directory

For every single package I am trying to install (except replace winesetuptk with package's dir). I have checked, and /usr/share/doc does exist and isn't a dead symlink. The /usr partition has plenty of space too. When I try to create a file with vi and save it in this dir, I get the same kind of error. I can make dirs and files in other places on my HD. I tried removing some installed programs thinking I had hit the limit of files in a dir with the ext2 filesystem (there were a LOT of dirs here), but that did no good. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a solution? I have no idea what the problem is. TIA.

Rob
