lftp is actually really good, it supports http/https too! You can download something, hit ^Z (it will background the download) and keep browsing, download something else, hit ^Z again, etc.. to download multiple files. it looks like ntp is running but I see no log entries, only when it starts. it used to log what it does, now it doesn't... when I do shutdown ntp stop says process not found (so it cannot be killed) the computer seems to stay on time now (but it was as much as 5 minutes off few weeks ago...

That doesn't seem like to me like what I want to do, but it could be. Basically, I downloaded the basic files to install Linux on my Windows partition and now want to use dselect to install packages, which will also have to be downloaded onto the Windows partition before being transferred over
