In my experience, Vorbis handles lower bit rates much better than mp3, and is somewhat better at higher bit rates as well. Yes. oggenc is the command-line encoder (takes a .au or .wav file as input) and ogg123 is the command-line player. The Vorbis plug-in in xmms is probably out of date. Check vorbis.com for a newer one. Vorbis 1.0 RC1 just came out recently. Craig
