There is a way the NT bootloader will work with booting up Linux
and NT. First you install NT, whatever you want NTFS or FAT16, then
install Linux. When you install Linux do not tell Linux to boot up
using Lilo. Instead bot of a disk. There is a program called bootpart

I finally got over my signal 11 problems and can now recompile a kernel.
The problems seem to have been due to bad RAM. I reinitialized my
partitions because I was afraid I would run into filesystem problems due to
the numerous times my computer froze when I was trying to recompile a
kernel.

You might have better success it you make your modules using
make-kpkg rather than make-ing in the source directory. Try
executing `make-kpkg --targets' to get a list of targets (which
includes modules).
Caveat - I haven't made modules with make-kpkg myself, so I don't
know what pitfalls might aw

Okay Okay I have solved the problem. The problem is because I installed
ptolemy package. Now this package has some weird configurations and in
addition to that it installs its own gcc. This version of gcc is not
similar to the system installed one. Hence the difference between root and
other users.

have -- if the code's not there, it can't probe. make-kpkg from

used 2.3.1, I couldn't get the connection to go faster than 850b/s, but with

apparently yppasswd in the nis package wasn't compiled with
-DUSE_OBVIOUS
to check for weak passwords. I found out that more than 20% of the user
passwords in a Debian net I was managing were _very_ weak (eg login name). Not
a very comfortable figure (even if one's using shadow passwords)
At boot time, right at the point where the login prompt appears, I get
the message mentioned in the subject. Does anyone have an idea what
this means?
