The whole Debian package system is still somewhat a mystery- but then, I'd never even USED Linux before this last weekend... Ignus> 'make modules' 'make modules_install' > This may be your problem. You compiled and installed a kernel > and modules, and you then clobbered modules with another set. *Don't* > do this. The .deb file is all you need. Okay, you guys have been a GREAT help! I went back to the 2.0.29 kernel, re-organized the commands to compile the kernel-- I ALMOST have a perfect boot disk now!!! The mouse/serial/parallel stuff works well as modules now, but I'm still stuck on the sound part. It may well be bacause I only have isapnptools version 1.9 (the soundblaster FAQ suggests 1.10 though I don't know where to find that one). Everything looks good during boot, but then I get this error when the sound module tries to initialize: 'no dependency information for module: "/lib/modules/2.0.29/misc/sound.o"' Everything but sound works great (even in X11), but stuff like Quake will seg fault unless I disable sound. Any other advice!?!??!?!? Thanks again for all the help- Stan -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
