grace already uses defoma, the Debian font management system. It can use
any Type1 font installed and registered with defoma, like lmodern for
example. The TeX packages do not use defoma, yet?

Update: after said experience, and now up-to-date sid, it works. Can
switch frontend to kde and no segfault.
Under the circumstances, the bug should probably be further downgraded

The bad symlinks were caused by the package
ec-fonts-mftraced. It looks like it has been fixed now, so simply
upgrading it might solve the problem.
