good news is that you should be able to easily switch to PVH
mode with pvhgrub which uses grub's core routines to decompress the
kernel and therefore supports whatever compression methods that grub
normally does.

unstable (37-6). I have verified this by forcibly installing the .deb
from unstable on a buster system; this allows tools such as grub-install
and efibootmgr to work successfully.
Please can this fix be backported to buster so that an install is
possible?

Of cause firefox claims that the browser is working as intended and this is
correct behavior (relying on the Google safe browsing API)
Google on the other hand don't provide a working, reliable method to resolve
their proprietary API database issues.
Perhaps it is time to push for the feture to
ciate it.
