This works for me both on startup and shutdown.. well, I get the console
for a split second on shutdown/restart before plymouth kicks in.
I guess it has to do with the fact that I do NOT use KMS for now on my
radeon x1250. I don't know if I am making a atrocity here as well.

Looking at the forum [1], it seems that one needs to build Elmer with
METIS in order to have it link with MUMPS. I link it with Scotch, but
even so Elmer never even tests MUMPS linkage.

The error occurs when checking a .changes file referencing one or more
