[Bug 551950] Re: gnome-bluetooth cannot use pin = 1234
Freaking 4 years and this fundamental problem not fixed in 14.04. Another thing: in the Ubuntu Software Center the Bluetooth package contains most of the configuration applets for gnome that are totally unrelated to bluetooth like keyboard settings and desktop fonts, It says it in the description but I thought it was a mistake. [Bug 219057] Re: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi
This is an issue that will exist until the specifications of Bluetooth and Wifi become more collaperative. Unfortuntely, Bluetooth and Wifi both run on the ISM band (2.4 to 2.4835 GHz). When Wifi encounters interferance, it simply tries to resend the packet. This causes Wifi to slow to a halt as it will continue to try to resent the packet until it is successful easily cutting Wifi speeds in half or usually much more than half. When Bluetooth encounters interferance, it jumps onto another frequency and tries sending the packet again (it would perform the jump whether or not interferance was discovered on that particular frequency as it's part of the Bluetooth spec to preform frequency "hopping"). Due to the fact that this frequency "hopping" occurs at a hardware level and not software, you cannot force bluetooth to use or to not use certain channels. Unfortunately, this is hardware dependant to my knowledge. -- Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 82617] Re: GDM starts before home directories mounted
Hi, I have this problem too on Ubuntu Intreprid (latest updates) The cause of the problem is that my /home directory is on a ext3 partition and my / partition is on a reiserfs partition. The /home partition reached the max mount count (31), so normally I'm used that it checks the drive in splash, but for some reason it didn't (When switching on splash boot messages after a reboot It reported "mounting local file systems: failed") and went on booting. When in gdm, trying to login it said 'COuld not login becasue /home/nathan' doesn't exists, Login anyway? Login anyway failed becasue of an erorr on .dmrc (file permissions were not correct, but gdm probably couldn't even find the file. At that time I didn't knew what was going on, but I suspected the max mount count. But since my virtual terminals doesn't work - I guess I have to file another bug report for that) - and I couldn't login, I could not check that. I then booted with another kernel: 2.6.26=> (I only have latest 2.6.26 from repositiories, and 2.6.27 from someone elses repository), but same story. I then booted in foresight linux (which has its /home directory on the same partition as its /) and ran fsck on my ubuntu's /home partition. Indeed a check was forced. After the fs check was done I rebooted in ubuntu and everything was ok. Conclusion: If the /home partition is checked the user should be reported that (as in previous version), maybe the boot can continue but in any case gdm should wait for the check to end (or gdm should show a nice message, and only tolerate login after the check has finished) -- GDM starts before home directories mounted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82617 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For some reason all messages were marked as spam, got in my local spam box (without any notification) and were removed when I closed evolution (removed from the local spam list, and from the server) Not checking for spam is a (temporary) solution. [Bug 208231] Re: Evince opens web links in gedit
Hi, I tested it out with a clean profile: nearly the same happens. 1: Open a PDF document, click on an external link http://something.org 2: firefox opens the website => All ok Since I'm a webdeveloper, and opens .html documents often to edit them I changed the default program to open .html document from firefox to gedit 3: Open nautilus, search or create a .html file 4: Right-click on it to open the properties menu 5: go to the Open With tab 6: Select Text editor (gedit) 7: Close the menu, and click once again on the link in the PDF document 8: Gedit downloads the document, opens it and shows the HTML code 9: Repeat step 5-7, but choose firefox again 10: Firefox opens as expected Maybe this is normal behaviour for evince because it uses gvfs or whatever to open the documents, but it is not what I want that it does. Maybe it is not an evince bug, but a gnome/gvfs/nautilus/whatever bug. If you say it is my system (but it is not the user configuration, since I used a clean new profile), I want to know what can cause it. [Bug 420583] [NEW] Notify-osd looks are not customizable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: notify-osd At the moment the notify-osd looks are not configurable (not with a GUI, and as far as I can see not with gconf and/or a configuration file). THis should be possible to do: in the first place with gconf (or configuration file) and in the longer term a GUI (maybe not all aspects, but at least some of them). Rationale: Color settings: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/334310?comments=all (Mirco has confirmed the problem and seems to work on a solution) Presentation settings: If notifications should be visible in fullscreen or not (and what priority should be shown) (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/402962) Font settings: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/notify-osd/+bug/335383 (is already being worked on...) Also things like blur and fade out settings should be configurable Timeout settings: the time notifications stay should also be configurable: some people read faster than others, so the very-sensible default (of x time per n characters) can be good, but some people maybe like y time per n characters. Placement settings (which is the real cause of the bug report: center-right is in my option very bad UI design (maybe it is just an experiment): Probably it is more noticeable than top-right but it is also more probable that it is in your way: While reading (a big text) the part I'm reading is often more or less in the center, so I can do 2 things when such a notification happens: Scroll down so I can read the text again, or move my mouse so it appears above the notification so I can read the text under it... It thought notify-osd was about "passive" notifications that didn't take your attention so you were not obliged to do anything, with the new (non-)sensible non-configurable default setting I have to react (sometimes) to a notification... ** Affects: notify-osd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Notify-osd looks are not customizable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420583 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 362997] Re: totem hides notifications
I guess it has to be changed to "fixed" Current behavior is that non-critical notifications do not appear in fullscreen mode. Probably this is expected, but still I want to see those on certain occasions (when I'm watching a movie on my own without family, I don't care that I see pidgin notifications) So I think there should be a configuration option: "Show all notifications when in fullscreen mode" that when enabled shows all notifications, and when disabled only shows the critical ones... -- totem hides notifications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 174874] Re: IPP Printing fails if server is identified by name rather than address
I do have a similar problem. I have a printer shared on a local network. When I try to add the printer within gnome (so I guess system-config-printer) and fill in alfa as hostname it can't find it. When I use the IP directly it works. Adding the printer however does not change the IP to the hostname, so it works. But filling in the IP manually is not quite userfriendly... alfa is defined in /etc/hosts but is not found when doing host alfa, but using alfa in firefox or with ping or with resolveip works as expected... I'm using karmic, but the same problem existed in earlier versions too... [Bug 508399] [NEW] Confusing and duplicate menu items for some programs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alacarte When I go in edit->menu (= alacarte) I see some duplicate entries, and some confusing ones. I know (think) that this is not alacarte's fault but more that of the applications themselves and the freedesktop specification. But I think alacarte devs will know better than me where to fix this issue (because I'm not sure if it is not alacarte's fault) Let's take some examples: * Banshee is listed 3 times (with only one visible in the menu) with as title: Banshee media player * F-spot is listed once in submenu Graphics, and twice in Misc ("overige" in duch) * More in misc: Theme installation is listed. When I enable this one (just for fun) and start it nothing happens. When I dig deeper I see the parameters for banshee and f-spot are different for the 3 items (two that do something with a media device, one to start the app). Similar for f-spot. I see why 3 .desktop files are needed, since sometimes (eg attaching a mp3-player) you need other parameters then parameters for just starting the app. I see 2 solutions: 1) Change the specification so that some entries are not possible to see in menu editor, but only as helper apps. (and/or use this in the mentioned .desktop files). This will solve that some .desktop files are only visible in corresponding context, and are not showing up twice or more. (which is confusing for users). 2) Change the specification so that the 3 desktop files could be merged in one, but with different exec commando's depending on the context. (or if this already exist in the spec, use it in mentioned .desktop files). So do these specifications exists, and if not where can I request it to be added to the spec? [Bug 501099] [NEW] system hangs when using dual head and fglrx
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx System randomly hangs when using dual monitors. X server becomes completely unresponsive, unable to switch to tty (ctrl+alt+f1). Strangely, if there was audio playing, it continues fine. The hang usually occurs when watching video on one screen and doing something else on the other. I have repeated the crash using VLC and Totem. The hang has also occured when running a virtual machine one one head and something else on the other. The system becomes unresponsive before any logs are written to disk, so there is nothing in kern.log, syslog, or messages. When the hang reoccurs I will hopefully find some log messages to help here. More info: Kernel: 2.6.31-16 xorg-driver-fglrx: 2:8.660 Compiz is enabled. I couldn't find any similar bugs here. #333027 is close, but my bug does not involve video playback exclusively.
