Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

When I go in edit->menu (= alacarte) I see some duplicate entries, and
some confusing ones.

I know (think) that this is not alacarte's fault but more that of the
applications themselves and the freedesktop specification. But I think
alacarte devs will know better than me where to fix this issue (because
I'm not sure if it is not alacarte's fault)

Let's take some examples:

* Banshee is listed 3 times (with only one visible in the menu) with as title:
Banshee media player
* F-spot is listed once in submenu Graphics, and twice in Misc ("overige" in
duch)
* More in misc: Theme installation is listed. When I enable this one (just for
fun) and start it nothing happens.

When I dig deeper I see the parameters for banshee and f-spot are
different for the 3 items (two that do something with a media device,
one to start the app). Similar for f-spot.

I see why 3 .desktop files are needed, since sometimes (eg attaching a
mp3-player) you need other parameters then parameters for just starting
the app.

I see 2 solutions:
1) Change the specification so that some entries are not possible to see in
menu editor, but only as helper apps. (and/or use this in the mentioned
.desktop files). This will solve that some .desktop files are only visible in
corresponding context, and are not showing up twice or more. (which is
confusing for users).
2) Change the specification so that the 3 desktop files could be merged in one,
but with different exec commando's depending on the context. (or if this
already exist in the spec, use it in mentioned .desktop files).

So do these specifications exists, and if not where can I request it to
be added to the spec?

Greetings,
Nathan
