Re: [Bug 522255] Re: can't download free software. Computer says "Waiting for other software managers to quit"

2010-03-24 Thread mikkel
I have not been able to solve my problem by downloading the free
software Based on the advice I received. Therefore I have installed
Ubuntu again and now there are no problems downloading the free
software and updates Ubuntu. I do not know what has been wrong in the
first installation but now everything works as it should. Thank you
for your help.

[Bug 1368402] Re: GTK3 apps doesn't understand natural scrolling in Xubuntu

2014-12-04 Thread Mikkel
I patched gtk3 to inverse scrolling and created a package. This works in
all gtk3 apps, so now I have got natural scrolling everywhere. But the
downside is that it's not possible to toggle natural scrolling. It's
only possible to get back the default scrolling by reinstalling the
official libgtk-3-0.

It would be fairly easy to implement a check for a gsettings flag that
could toggle natural scrolling.

[Bug 1368402] Re: GTK3 apps doesn't understand natural scrolling in Xubuntu

2014-12-04 Thread Mikkel
@Yanpas, sure, but use at your own risk :-)

dpkg -i the .deb. Then hold it if you want to prevent apt from
overwriting with at new version if it becomes available. I use aptitude.

sudo aptitude hold libgtk-3-0.

amd64 .deb attached as well as my patch.

The patch in the current form is only a workaround, not a suggested
official fix, because it doesn't allow for toggling natural scrolling.
It just patches gtk to ALWAYS use natural scrolling

What is the status on this bug?

[Bug 155132] Re: Bulletproof X sets refresh rate too high

2008-11-07 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Hi Bryce,

As you can see, this bug is more than a year old. I have since gotten a
Mac and only use Ubuntu on servers (where I don't use BpX anyways). In
addition, I can't even remember which box I got this on, so I'm afraid I
can't assist you any further with this issue.

Kind regards,

Mikkel Høgh

[Bug 61630] Edgy Knot 2 liveCD doesn't generate proper menu.lst

2006-09-21 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

I just installed Knot 2 from the x86 live CD, and it left the system in
an unbootable state. It didn't generate the proper menu.lst.

I set up my ubuntu partition on /dev/sdb1 (since Ubuntu has started to
call regular PATA hdds sd* instead of hd*), but the menu.lst generated
references (hd0,0) which in this case is /dev/sda1 and the root
parameter is set to /dev/hda1 (which doesn't exist on my system).

When I used grub to change this to (hd1,0) and /dev/sdb1 it boots as it
should.

This is probably related to bug #61108

I think some sort of line-breaking widget should be used here :)

failsafe configuration - but my screen (Acer AL2016W) won't display it,
so I just get a "Input not supported" message on the screen (Acer OSD)

I will attach the logs here when I manage to get it working...

This bug persists. This should be easy to fix - all that needs to be
done is to make the password-dialog modal, so I can grab my password
from my password app (Revelation).

[Bug 136594] Thunderbird segfaults when reading mail

2007-09-01 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

When reading mail in Thunderbird, I am experiencing regular segfaults.
There is no real pattern to which mails it barfs over, although certain
HTML e-mails makes it crash every time.

[Bug 136594] Re: Thunderbird segfaults when reading mail

Ah, well. I found the cause of this.

It was due to the fact that I had the enigmail extension installed
without having GPG installed. An easy fix :)

2008-01-19 Thread Mikkel Høgh
I don't know what you are talking about... Seahorse is _supposed_ to ask
me for my SSH-key password, since the key is password protected.

No, there's a real bug here, and that is that the password dialog goes
super-model, preventing me from grabbing the password from my password
manager.

Well, there's two issues to this.

1) The dialog showed up even though I had no SSH key.

2) The dialog is super-modal.

[Bug 108431] [Feisty] Sudden sound problem

2007-04-21 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

My sound has suddenly stopped working in Feisty. I've been running
Feisty on my IBM Thinkpad R50e for about a month with no problem, but
yesterday, I was enjoying some music before getting to bed - then I put
the laptop into hibernation and went to sleep. When I started it up
again this morning it no longer worked, neither with or without
headphones.

I've tried everything in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems to no avail.

I will attach files with the output of the debugging commands listed
there...

[Bug 104710] [Feisty] Metacity crash when loading page with Japanese text in Firefox

2007-04-09 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

I've only got one 3rd party reposity enabled (apart from canonicals
commercial one), that is mlinds repository for turner-font-patches. I do

pointed to his packages - I believe he uses Malone as well. I'll try to

2007-04-09 Thread Mikkel Høgh
The page that makes metacity crash for me is
http://b.hatena.ne.jp/entry/3041238 - If I restart metacity after the

aforementioned URL to the foreground, metacity crashes again. For some
reason, apport doesn't seem to catch this crash...

[Bug 91116] ssh causes evil non-functional focus stealing dialog

2007-03-10 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Since I started testing Feisty, I've run in to a rather odd problem - when I
run ssh in my terminal, a strange dialog pops up, asking for my Secure Shell
Key Passphrase.
Given the fact that I have no such thing on this computer, I find that rather
strange.

In addition to that, CLI commands should never spawn dialogs or other windows...
Also, the spawned window not only steals focus, but it steals all text input
regardless of whether it's focused or not

To reproduce:
Open a termial in Feisty and run 'ssh some.host.com'

2007-03-12 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Ah, yes. That makes sense - but it's still a bug, since the key it asks
the password for is not relevant to the connections. And still, CLI
commands should not spawn windows and dialogs...

[Bug 88512] python2.5-minimal blocks update from Edgy to Feisty

2007-02-27 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Today, I decided to test the update procedure for upgrading to Feisty
(which is still alpha, I know). I removed all packages not in main and
updated my installation and ran "sudo update-manager -c --dist-upgrade"

It worked fairly well until it came up with the "Could not install
'python2.5-minimal'" and "subprocess post-installation script returned
error exit status 1"

I'll attach the files from /var/log/dist-upgrade/ as per the
instructions in the error dialogue.

[Bug 88512] Re: python2.5-minimal breaks update from Edgy to Feisty

2007-02-28 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Well, due to the botched upgrade, the system in question is rather
broken now - Most of my programs work but window management is broken.

My problem yesterday did not produce a main.log file. I seem to have run
into a different issue today, but that might just be because the system
is thoroughly by now. In any case, I will attach the main.log produced
by it.

As the new bug prevents me from reproducing the old one, I have tried to
do it manually ("sudo aptitude install python2.5-minimal"), and this
gets me the attached error-message.

After reading the error message, I tried removing python-docutils and
that lets me install python2.5-minimal without problems.

I need to post this now, since I cannot retry the upgrade process without
closing Firefox. I will also post the main.log from the other issue, though I
suspect that might have been fixed by way of fixing the other problem.
In any case, I'll post the main.log in my next comment.

[Bug 86153] rkhunter complains about files shipped by Ubuntu

2007-02-18 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rkhunter

When running rkhunter on my (several) Ubuntu 6.06, I have found at least
4 files/dirs/symlinks shipped by Ubuntu itself that is found to be
"suspicious" by rkhunter.

These are:
/lib/modules/2.6.15-27-amd64-generic/volatile/.mounted
/dev/.static
/dev/.udev
/dev/.initramfs

Although it is easy to add these to the the allow-list in
/etc/rkhunter.conf, it's annoying to have to do this on all your
servers, so I think it would be sensible for Ubuntu to add these to the
rkhunter.conf we ship.

[Bug 62206] Re: Marvell 88E8056 gigabyte LAN interface on asus p5b doesn't work

2007-01-03 Thread Mikkel Schubert
As mentioned in the kerneltrap thread above, all that is needed to get
the 88E8056 NIC working is to add an entry for the card to the
sky2_id_table array in sky2.c. So far, I've made do by manually patching
the sky2.ko file, but having the NIC work out of the box would be nice,
especially since it's the only NIC on the motherboard I have (Gigabyte
GA-965P-S3), and I don't expect that most users are able to add support
for the NIC themselves.

[Bug 72166] autosuspend breaks if there are 2+ X ssessions

2006-11-17 Thread Mikkel Erup
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpowersave

Kpowersave has e really nice feature that lets you configure it to autosuspend
to disk or RAM if the computer is idle for some time.
However, if I log in and later leave the computer and it autosuspends to RAM
then if my girlfriend wakes it up and starts a new session for herself the
computer will suspend when my login, the first one, is determined to have been
idle for some time. This happens in the middle of her work. She then wakes the
computer up again but it immediately suspends again because my own session is
determined to be idle. I think kpowersave should somehow determine if another
session is active and not suspend the computer if that is the case.
It is a really annoying bug and my girlfriends only option if I'm not home is
to reboot to get me logged out as I don't share my password.

[Bug 73460] Network interfaces keeps changing around...

2006-11-27 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-server

I have a gateway server running 6.10 server, where I have three NICs,
two of them are identical. These are how they're shown by lspci:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet
Controller (rev 02)
01:01.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet
Controller (rev 02)
01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet
Controller (rev 02)

The thing is that whenever the box is rebooted, there's a random chance
that the kernel will mix up the NICs, so that eth1 becomes eth2 instead,
completely ruining my network setup.

I don't know whether this is in fact Ubuntu specific, but I didn't have
this problem when I used Gentoo...

I got this too on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. I stopped the message flood just
by clicking eject on the dvd icon that was still in Nautilus although
there was no DVD in the drive. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't
been looking for another error in the logs. I don't think it makes any
sense for this message to be repeated many times per second. I think
that the eject button on the drive ought to work without causing
problems like this.

[Bug 484209] Re: /etc/init/statd.conf: race with portmap startup

2010-03-06 Thread Mikkel Christensen
Sorry, my above comment got posted before I was done writing.

Before applying Malcolm's patch, I got:

start: Job failed to start

when I tried to start statd.

This problem was preventing me from using NFS shares mounted by autofs.
Needless to say, it was a critical problem for me that users could not
access their files! I really think that this fix needs to be applied to
Karmic most urgently. I can't be the only one affected.

If you try to reproduce this bug, please keep in mind that it doesn't
fail every time. Being a race condition it succeeds sometimes and fails
sometimes.

And finally: Thank you THANK YOU to Malcolm for providing the
explanation as well as a solution. I had been tearing my hair out over
this one!

It took me hours of work to track down this solution. I will post some of the
symptoms I had of the NFS failures here so that other googlers may find this
solution more easily:
/var/log/syslog:
automount[1812]: attempting to mount entry /mnt/fileserver/home

[Bug 48108] Re: PC sleeps makes breaks mouse input and hotkeys

2006-06-13 Thread Mikkel Høgh
I have the same problem with local screensaver that causes described
symtoms. I've updated the bugs description to something more
meaningful..

** Summary changed:

- Remote PC sleeps makes desktop freeze.
+ PC sleeps makes breaks mouse input and hotkeys

** Description changed:

I will try to gather more info than this, but here is what happens:

When I remote into Win2K3 Server with RDP the session works fine until
the 2k3 server locks itself (goes to ctrl-alt-del). At this point my
mouse is moveable, but clicking on anything does nothing. The keyboard
still works and everything else seems normal, but I have to restart the
X-server to regain the ability to 'click' on anything.

- Are there any suggestions to help debug this?? It is really annoying.
+ Other users experience the opposite problem - local screensaver causes
+ the same symtoms as described above...

** Changed in: tsclient (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium => High
   Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed

[Bug 48108] Re: PC sleeps makes breaks mouse input and hotkeys

2006-06-16 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Ok, thanks for the tip. I've added gnome-screensaver to this bug :)

   Status: Unconfirmed

** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
   Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed

+
+ This is apparently related to gnome-screensaver, since killing gnome-
+ screensaver resolves the problem.

[Bug 1562219] Re: xinit will not work as non-root.

2016-06-24 Thread Mikkel Kromann
I am affected by the same bug, although the X error message is slightly
different ("parse_vt_settings: Cannot open /dev/tty0" instead of
"xf86OpenConsole: " ...)

In /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config I have tried to replaced

allowed_users=console

with

allowed_users=anybody

and in this file I also tried the option

need_root_rights = yes

but both attempts had no visible consequences.

I have looked at the workaround for koda posted above, but I am unable to
extract the bits that may make it help in my case. Perhaps someone can give
suggestions to me based on the posted workaround. The program I want to run in
its own Xserver is a game, so all the systemd stuff in the workaround is not
that relevant to me. Although my knowledge of X is very limited, I'd love to
contribute with some testing as far as I can go. Thanks for your time and
efforts /Mikkel.

[Bug 1562219] Re: xinit will not work as non-root.

2016-06-26 Thread Mikkel Kromann
Hi again.

Seems that my case is connected to my NVIDIA card and this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1525735

The following solved my problem:

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-legacy

In /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config I replaced

allowed_users=console

with

allowed_users=anybody

[Bug 1646485] [NEW] security update regression in 'convert' tool when creating an image containing a text label

2016-12-01 Thread Mikkel Krautz
Public bug reported:

Running the following command doesn't work anymore:

convert -background transparent -fill black -pointsize 32 label:test
out.png

when libmagickcore4-8:6.6.9.7-5ubuntu3.6 is installed.

It fails with the following error:

convert: missing an image filename `out.png' @
error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3011.

and exits with status 1.

It works fine when I downgrade libmagickcore4 to 8:6.6.9.7-5ubuntu3.5.
The image is created, and the exit status is 0.

It seems like the security patches in 8:6.6.9.7-5ubuntu3.6 broke this
behavior.

[Bug 1014257] [NEW] MySQL monitoring fails when used with Percona or MariaDB

2012-06-17 Thread Mikkel Høgh
Public bug reported:

Several of the MySQL monitors give errors like the following when used
with a MariaDB server in Precise:

2012/06/17-12:10:27 [30020] Error output from mysql_qcache:
2012/06/17-12:10:27 [30020] Unknown section: Main thread process no. 9457,
id 140001932375808, state: waiting for server activity at

2012/06/17-12:10:27 [30020] Service 'mysql_qcache' exited with status 255/0.

As far as I can tell, this issue has been addressed upsteam:

* https://github.com/kjellm/munin-mysql/issues/34
* https://github.com/kjellm/munin-mysql/issues/37

I'm pretty sure that these fixes were included in the 1.4.7 release of Munin,
but sadly, Precise only include 1.4.6.

[Bug 580855] Re: Ubuntu One sync daemon continuously hashing

2012-06-06 Thread Mikkel Christensen
I fixed it by uninstalling ubuntuone-client and dependants using
Synaptic Package Manager. Ubuntu One was just bloatware that I never
asked for anyway. It should be optional to download, especially when it
is buggy and causes hard-to-track problems like this.

[Bug 1175897] Re: PPTP VPN Service failed to start after upgrade to 13.04

2013-05-09 Thread Mikkel Hagen
I just got this working on my system. I have ubuntu 13.04 in a vm
running on a windows host using virtualbox. I randomly changed the
networking this morning from a NATed interface to a bridged interface
and I changed the emulated network device from the Intel PRO/1000 MT
Desktop to the PCnet-FAST III adapter. And tonight I connected with my
pptp vpn in the ubuntu vm no problem. I am not sure if one or both of
the changes fixed it, but it seems to be working away just fine for the
last severl hours and I have even been able to disconnect and reconnect
several times.

[Bug 911783] Re: Mumble hangs when trying to connect

2013-06-03 Thread Mikkel Krautz
We're hoping to fix this upstream as soon as we can.

The hang happens inside avahi's libdns_sd compat library. The library
gets in a weird state because of a seemingly wrong readyRead() by a
QSocketNotifier in Mumble's Bonjour code.

We haven't found the root cause of it yet, though, but we hope we will
soon.

[Bug 576601] Re: [MacBookPro 7, 1]mcp89 sata link reset fails, no disks detected

2010-06-20 Thread Mikkel Madsen
The Ubuntu version works great on my mbp but can someone create an .iso
for Linux Mint 9 Main 64 bit edition, please? This is the distro I
normally use and there are probably others that would use this as well.
