I just got this working on my system. I have ubuntu 13.04 in a vm running on a windows host using virtualbox. I randomly changed the networking this morning from a NATed interface to a bridged interface and I changed the emulated network device from the Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop to the PCnet-FAST III adapter. And tonight I connected with my pptp vpn in the ubuntu vm no problem. I am not sure if one or both of the changes fixed it, but it seems to be working away just fine for the last severl hours and I have even been able to disconnect and reconnect several times.
