[Bug 58080] The program cannot save a jpg/png file as an eps file when preview is selected.

2006-08-29 Thread mas
Public bug reported:

Open any jpg/png file. Choose, File->Save as, give a name like file.eps.
It goes through certain queries like color, preview, etc. When Preview
is selected, the program fails to save the file. Otherwise, it saves.

[Bug 68766] Djvulibre Plugin

2006-10-27 Thread mas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have installed the djvulibre-plugin from the universe repo for edgy.
It is installed and the symlinks are set up correctly in /usr/lib

see the djvu plugin listed there.

But, clicking on a djvu file, a window pops up allowing me to either

On my machines, one with nvidia card and the other a laptop with Ati

that there must be something with the ubuntu patch which causes the

[Bug 88819] 6.10 desktop boot cdrom: buffer i/o error hdc (near end of cdrom)

2007-02-28 Thread mas
Public bug reported:

cdrom burned and iso image read from cdrom drive which wrote it and
md5's match original iso (which match distribution md5).

booting cdrom on failing machine (cdrom, not writer, Pentium 3) and
can run cdrom test which reports cdrom is ok.

Try to boot ubuntu and get kernel gets errors on hdc (cdrom) at block
357566 which is at end of cdrom (and fails to boot).

Why is the iso image 732 MB on a cd-r which is only supposed to hold
700 MB? Since the error is block 357566 perhaps it's just to big?
(or something reads a bit past the end which is too far?)

Can't run live...

Old cd-r with ubuntu 5.04 (655 MB) boots and runs on this machine.

Knoppix 5.1.1 will boot and run (730 MB!).

The blank cdrom case says will hold 700 MB

more info:

the same cd-r will boot fine in P4 with the cd writer which wrote it.

back on the P3 w/ cdrom drive running (oh, old RH 7.2) I can
do dd if=/dev/hdc of=x-hdc and it completes with error
on /dev/hdc; I can see seek incomplete in /var/log/messages;
however the result output x-hdc file is 732293120 bytes
long which is the exact length of the original iso file and a
md5sum of it results in the correct md5 checksum for the ubuntu
6.10 desktop iso. So all the data is on the cdrom and
is readable with this cdrom drive, just not past the end...

Anders is right. Unsetting GTK_IM_MODULE did not make inkscape crash.
But, I lost the way to input text in my language. So, I tried setting

[Bug 362444] Re: No sound after upgrading Intrepid to Jaunty beta

2009-04-17 Thread Orestes Mas
Partly good news on this bug: I've sound for now with 2.6.28-22 kernel,
although weaker than with 2.6.27-11 kernel.

The problem was that with the newest kernel the two "Analog loopback"
channels were unmuted, and this lead to no audio at all (at least in my
laptop, a HP Pavilion dv7).

But I've noticed that now the sound volume is smaller than with the old
kernel, and the mixer's channels are sort of messed up: for example, the
PCM channel used to have a "mute" checkbox, but now is gone, and also
the PCM slider control doesn't change the volume at all.

Perhaps the cause is a misdetection of the soundcard "model". I've to
further investigate loading snd-hda-intel module with different model
names, as suggestes in the ALSA Wiki: http://alsa.opensrc.org/Hda

More on that later.

[Bug 282115] [NEW] Cannot login into KDE4 desktop after upgrade from hardy KDE4 ppa packages

2008-10-12 Thread Orestes Mas
Public bug reported:

Initial situation: Kubuntu Hardy with KDE4 desktop installed from
unofficial packages (ppa repository).

When upgrading to Kubuntu intrepid beta, the installation was succesful,
but when I tried to log in after the restart, a box appeared complaining
about not finding "kstartupconfig4" program.

Obviously this is a renaming problem, as a file exist named
"kstartupconfig".

This is a critical issue, as it rends the system unusable for most users
(at least for those unable to switch to a console and try to fix the
problem from there).

I'll try to remove all the "ppa" unofficial packages and (perhaps)
reinstall kde to fix the problem. I'll report the results later.

[Bug 278069] Re: hal permission problems preventing jobs to be printed

2008-10-07 Thread Orestes Mas
Updating: The fact one printer works and the other doesn't is
irrellevant, as these printers use different backends (hp and hal).

The problematic printer is the one using the HAL backend. After some
googling I've found the suggestion of doing a "chmod 700
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hal" (and the same to the "usb" backend), and
restart cups. Doing so clears the "Permission denied" message, but
printer still doesn't work: it eats any document send to it without
printing nothing. At least for me.

[Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend

2009-01-10 Thread Orestes Mas
Finally, a BIOS update solved this problem for me.

I had to reinstall the original windows Vista from the recover partition
to use the BIOS flash utility from HP, which is a vista-only
application. The reinstall took more than 1h30' and 5 reboots in total,
for a less-than-1-minute BIOS flashing. So, as you can see, there are a
lot of linux-friendly engineers at HP...

Finally, a correction: I said my Pavilion is a dv7-1155es, but it's a
dv7-1005es instead (pretty mmuch the same hardware, though).

[Bug 362444] [NEW] No sound after upgrading Intrepid to Jaunty beta

Please note that I'm using Kubuntu with NO pulseaudio (with xine phonon

Sound was working ok before upgrading to Jaunty, although I've had to load
snd-hda-intel module with "enable_msi=1" parameter for sound to work properly
(sounds choppy if not)

Now I've NO sound at all with new Jaunty kernel 2.6.28-11-generic.

Sound starts to work again if I switch back to 2.6.27-11-generic (the
Intrepid kernel), so I assume it may be a kernel issue.

[Bug 264452] Re: Problem with kdeedu-kde4 and kstars-kde4 during Update of kde4

Here too. I think the cause is kstars-kde4 package both depends on AND
conflicts with indi-kde4. So, kstars-kde4 is not installable and so
isn't kdeedu-kde4

[Bug 396521] [NEW] Kernel's module "option" doesn't support Alcatel X060 GSM modem

2009-07-07 Thread Orestes Mas
Public bug reported:

I've an Alcatel X060 3G usb modem which doesn't work with ubuntu Jaunty
nor karmic.

The problem is

a) This device needs a "mode switching" after connection, to activate
the modem device. Before switching this device has an idVendor="0x1BBB"
and idProduct="0xF000", so internally it's identical to an Alcatel X200.

b) After that, Networkmanager, doesn't recognise the modem. After
further investigations it turns out that, after mode switching this
device has an idVendor="0x1BBB" and idProduct="0x", but no kernel
module (mainly "option" module) is handling these id's.

I've recompiled a stock 2.6.30.1 kernel, with these idVendor & idProduct
added into /usr/src/linux-2.6.30.1/drivers/usb/serial/option.c, and
since then my modem is recognised and works well with NetworkManager.

So, please, can you include this modification in your future kernels?
Also I'd appreciate that you report this problem upstream. I'm not very
used to deal with kernel developers ;-)

[Bug 396521] Re: Kernel's module "option" doesn't support Alcatel X060 GSM modem

2009-07-22 Thread Orestes Mas
@Leann: Unfortunately, I'm not able to test it soon because I lent it to
a friend who's now on holidays. But I compiled a kernel for him as
indicated above, and the modem worked for him, so with two positive
reports I consider the X060 support safe and working.

This friend has an Asus eeePC, and I have tested it with a regular
notebook, so at least support works for the Intel Core 2 and Intel Atom
platforms.

I'll test Javier's kernel ASAP.

[Bug 369500] Re: Elements are not provided for codecs provided by libavcodec-unstripped

2009-08-22 Thread Jordi Mas
On 22nd of August of 2009 this still happens.

The problem seems that gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg does not detected the

As you point out, all the plugins provided by the unstripped version are
not available.

[Bug 396521] Re: Kernel's module "option" doesn't support Alcatel X060 GSM modem

2009-07-31 Thread Orestes Mas
In fact, module "option" is able to support this modem right now, but it
doesn't know so, because the modem ID isn't bundled into the module.

The patch simply tells the kernel to use the "option" module to handle
the Alcatel X060.

So yes, expect this modem to be automatically recognised and handled by
the kernel (with some aid of NetworkManager) in kernel future releases
(2.6.31?)

[Bug 184001] Re: konqueror-kde4 insists on opening links with Kate instead of itself

2008-02-20 Thread Orestes Mas
I was using KDE3 from kubuntu packages (kubuntu Gutsy), and obviously
links were opened by konqueror itself, as usual. This started to
malfunction when I installed KDE4 following the instructions linked
above.

I don't know if these kde4 packages were directly responsible for this
behavior, but I don't remember tweaking anything in the configuration,
so I assumed they were.

In any case, the fix is simple enough to not deserve further attention.

[Bug 173864] Accents and umlauts don't work in KDE apps with some catalan locales

2007-12-04 Thread Orestes Mas
Public bug reported:

In catalan language we've more than one locale in order to cope with
some minor variants and/or catalan being spoken across 4 countries.
Specifically, we have:

ca_ES.UTF-8
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
ca_AD.UTF-8
ca_FR.UTF-8
ca_IT.UTF-8

Well, some users are reporting that in Kubuntu GUTSY with LANG variable
set to any of the locales above listed, except the first one, keyboard
dead keys (accents and umlauts) are not working properly within KDE/Qt
applications, while Gnome/Gtk apps work well.

This bug is easy to reproduce opening a konsole window and manually
setting and exporting the "LANG" variable to any locale of the above
list and then invoking some kde application (e.g. Kate) from within the
konsole:

export LANG=ca_AD.UTF-8
kate

It can be easily noted that deadkeys only work with first locale.

So this problem is solved using always the first locale, but I don't
consider this a "fix".

2010-03-29 Thread Jordi Mas
Ok, there are different issues here.

There are some analogies that are easy, that's fine, not everything has
to be very difficult.

If a verbal analogy is impossible to understand is wrong, since the
player will be unable to provide a valid answer.

I do not know if you have ready this:
http://live.gnome.org/gbrainy/Localizing. You can change an analogy with
a complete different word game to make it work for your language.

Translating English questions has worked so far more than 30 languages.
However, have a way to indicate a separate XML for other languages is a
good idea.

Hello folks,

Thanks for the feedback. I think that the problem is that the question
clear enough for everybody bringing this confusion.

I would like to keep the puzzle simple. The user basically should count

Instead of the current question:

"How many cubes do you count in the figure below? (not counting the
figure) Answer using a number"

I would suggest:

"How many single small cubes do you count in the figure below? Answer
using a number"

What do you think?

[Bug 572607] Re: Incorrect answer in the 'cube' task

2010-05-01 Thread Jordi Mas
gbrainy allows the possibility to show different versions of the puzzle
depending on which difficulty level you are playing.

I suggest two actions here:

1. Short term (for the 1.4x) maintenance series, fix the current wording
of the question to make it work as it is now (easy / medium difficulty
level).

2. Medium term (for gbrainy 1.5x release) include a more complex puzzle
for master difficulty level.

Can you please guys confirm that the changes in the wording of proposed
in comment #5 will clarify the current puzzle as it is? (easy)

Can you give please provide a version (just the question, and answer,
and rationale, I can do the coding) of the same puzzle that is more
complex for inclusion on gbrainy 1.5?

Thanks a lot for your help

[Bug 422014] [NEW] Karmic alpha 4 lacks some translations

2009-08-31 Thread Orestes Mas
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 4, which uses KDE 4.3, lacks some recent catalan
translations in kde-l10n-ca package. More precisely, new KTuberling
sound translations have been added recently, and these don't appear yet
in the package. Files affected are
/usr/share/kde4/apps/ktuberling/sounds/ca.soundtheme and the associated
files in ca/ subdir. I can assure that these files have been in KDE's
SVN repository since mid-july (as I'm the translator and the person who
uploaded them).

[Bug 422014] Re: Karmic alpha 4 lacks some translations

2009-09-01 Thread Orestes Mas
I'm only a translator, and not very aware of (nor involved on) the
details of the releasing procedure.

I did the first commit of ca.soundtheme on july 31rd, 4 days before the
release of KDE 4.3.0. Then I did some updates in mid-august, after the
release. I expected at least the first commit to be present in karmic
packages (I figured you grab your kde 4.3.0 *after* its release), but
maybe you grabbed your version before my commits. Or maybe -as you seems
to point out- the kde-l10n-ca 4.3.0 tarball was simply the release
candidate one (built before my commits) left unchanged.

Anyway, don't mind. If this is only a minor timing issue it's not
important as these files will apperar in karmic sooner or later.

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

If you can confirm please that you can now find a second justification

[Bug 539522] Re: Nonsensical string in gbrainy puzzle

Agree. People is plural and travel should be 'travel'. Any other change
in this puzzle?

The fixed sentence is:

"If people that travel always buy a map and you are not going to travel.
Which of the following sentences is correct?"

My understanding is that actually practising [1] in correct in British

[Bug 555422] Re: Typo in gbrainy

2010-04-05 Thread Jordi Mas
Hello,

I used "to prove" instead of "to improve" because there have been recent
discussions in the scientific community regarding if playing brain
training software improves cognitive performance. Most of the studies
show that there is no or little improvement. I prefer do not to use
"improve" for this reason.

If the sentence "Memory trainers. To prove your short term memory" is
correct, I would prefer to use it because I have no prove that gbrainy
helps to do any improvement in this area.

Thanks,

[Bug 581429] Re: a perfect square is called "diamond"

2010-05-16 Thread Jordi Mas
My understanding is that rhombus and diamond are equivalent. As you
point out, could also rightly be called "square".

See the Cambridge dictionary for rhombus[1]:

"a flat shape which has four sides that are all of equal length"

or the Merriam Webster for rhombus[2]:

"a parallelogram with four equal sides and sometimes one with no right
angles"

It seems basically that the angles property is optional. This actually
briefly mention in the Wikipedia article[3]:

"Every rhombus is a parallelogram, and a rhombus with right angles is a
square. (Euclid's original definition and some English dictionaries'
definition of rhombus excludes squares, but modern mathematicians prefer
the inclusive definition.)"

For me the best solution is to find a well-know shape that cannot be
confused with the others, like for example a Pentagon.

Jordi,

[Bug 450349] [NEW] kde-l10n-ca should be installed by default along with main catalan translations packages

2009-10-13 Thread Orestes Mas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-l10n-ca

ores...@oersted:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

ores...@oersted:~$ LANG=en apt-cache policy kde-l10n-ca
kde-l10n-ca:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

kde-l10n-ca (and possibly the same applies to other languages as well)
contains a mixture of files, many of which are necessary to have certain
applications completely translated. But this package isn't installed by
default, nor it is a dependency for the main language packs (language-
pack-kde-* in this case), so some apps have incomplete translations.

For example, KTuberling application (in the kdeedu module) can have some
sounds translated (basically names of characters or objects) along with
the GUI, but currently these translated sounds are packaged in kde-l10n-
XX. Filenames are /usr/share/kde4/apps/ktuberling/sounds/*/*. As this package isn't installed by default nor by means of an
automatic dependency, users have to remember (and know) to install it
manually to have this app completely translated.

Same occurs to other apps, as klettres for instance.

So, please, either install this package by default along with main
language packs, or put the affected files into the main language packs.

[Bug 654742] Re: Gross mistake about palindromic years

2010-10-04 Thread Jordi Mas
Hello Daniel,

I will not classify this error as 'gross', mainly because:

* The sentence says "usually", it is not saying that this arithmetic applies to
all years.
* This sentence is part of the explanation of why the answer is valid, then it
has no impact on the user (still accepting valid answers and making a valid
question).

However, a game that demands precisions to players should obviously
precise when making questions and explaining the solution of puzzles.

A more precise explanation will be:

"From year 1.000 to year 10.000, palindrome years occur at 110 year
intervals except for the end of each millennium that occur at a 11 years
interval."

If you agree this change, I will applied and it will be ready for next
version. If not a more precise version is welcomed.

Thanks,

Jordi,

[Bug 675540] Re: gbrainy problems

2010-11-16 Thread Jordi Mas
Hello,

I'm currently travelling. When I'm back home I will have a look to these
issues.

I'm very interested in the bugs in the German translation.

Here you have the German translation file:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gbrainy/tree/po/de.po

If you spot any bug, please open a new bug detailing the sentences that
you propose to change.

Thanks very much,

Jordi,

[Bug 695691] Re: Ambiguous question

2010-12-31 Thread Jordi Mas
Yes, he does.

Tom, what about changing Bagpipes by Flute. Flute is a woodwind and also
used in an orchestra. In this way, you remove the possibility of
considering the orchestra instruments as the group.

The final question would be:

Which of the following words is the odd one?

* Violin (correct answer)
* Bassoon
* Flute
* Oboe

Rationale: It is the only one that is not a woodwind instrument.

What do you think?

[Bug 682714] Re: two possible true answers, only one accepted in number row quiz

2010-11-29 Thread Jordi Mas
Hello,

Just for clarification, your point is that since the number '9' is shown
twice, ambiguity arises.

Then, your proposed solution is to avoid showing repeated numbers.
Correct?

Thanks,

Jordi,
