[Bug 362444] Re: No sound after upgrading Intrepid to Jaunty beta
Partly good news on this bug: I've sound for now with 2.6.28-22 kernel, although weaker than with 2.6.27-11 kernel. The problem was that with the newest kernel the two "Analog loopback" channels were unmuted, and this lead to no audio at all (at least in my laptop, a HP Pavilion dv7). But I've noticed that now the sound volume is smaller than with the old kernel, and the mixer's channels are sort of messed up: for example, the PCM channel used to have a "mute" checkbox, but now is gone, and also the PCM slider control doesn't change the volume at all. Perhaps the cause is a misdetection of the soundcard "model". Public bug reported: I've an Alcatel X060 3G usb modem which doesn't work with ubuntu Jaunty nor karmic. The problem is a) This device needs a "mode switching" after connection, to activate the modem device. After further investigations it turns out that, after mode switching this device has an idVendor="0x1BBB" and idProduct="0x", but no kernel module (mainly "option" module) is handling these id's. I've recompiled a stock 2.6.30.1 kernel, with these idVendor & idProduct added into /usr/src/linux-2.6.30.1/drivers/usb/serial/option.c, and since then my modem is recognised and works well with NetworkManager. [Bug 184001] Re: konqueror-kde4 insists on opening links with Kate instead of itself
I was using KDE3 from kubuntu packages (kubuntu Gutsy), and obviously links were opened by konqueror itself, as usual. This started to malfunction when I installed KDE4 following the instructions linked above. I don't know if these kde4 packages were directly responsible for this behavior, but I don't remember tweaking anything in the configuration, so I assumed they were. [Bug 173864] Accents and umlauts don't work in KDE apps with some catalan locales
Public bug reported: In catalan language we've more than one locale in order to cope with some minor variants and/or catalan being spoken across 4 countries. Specifically, we have: ca_ES.UTF-8 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ca_AD.UTF-8 ca_FR.UTF-8 ca_IT.UTF-8 Well, some users are reporting that in Kubuntu GUTSY with LANG variable set to any of the locales above listed, except the first one, keyboard dead keys (accents and umlauts) are not working properly within KDE/Qt applications, while Gnome/Gtk apps work well. This bug is easy to reproduce opening a konsole window and manually setting and exporting the "LANG" variable to any locale of the above list and then invoking some kde application (e.g. Kate) from within the konsole: export LANG=ca_AD.UTF-8 kate It can be easily noted that deadkeys only work with first locale. So this problem is solved using always the first locale, but I don't consider this a "fix". ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Accents and umlauts don't work in KDE apps with some catalan locales https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, there are different issues here. There are some analogies that are easy, that's fine, not everything has to be very difficult. [Bug 422014] Re: Karmic alpha 4 lacks some translations
I'm only a translator, and not very aware of (nor involved on) the details of the releasing procedure. I did the first commit of ca.soundtheme on july 31rd, 4 days before the release of KDE 4.3.0. Then I did some updates in mid-august, after the release. I expected at least the first commit to be present in karmic packages (I figured you grab your kde 4.3.0 *after* its release), but maybe you grabbed your version before my commits. Or maybe -as you seems to point out- the kde-l10n-ca 4.3.0 tarball was simply the release candidate one (built before my commits) left unchanged. Anyway, don't mind. If this is only a minor timing issue it's not important as these files will apperar in karmic sooner or later. [Bug 581429] Re: a perfect square is called "diamond"
My understanding is that rhombus and diamond are equivalent. As you point out, could also rightly be called "square". See the Cambridge dictionary for rhombus[1]: "a flat shape which has four sides that are all of equal length" or the Merriam Webster for rhombus[2]: "a parallelogram with four equal sides and sometimes one with no right angles" It seems basically that the angles property is optional. This actually briefly mention in the Wikipedia article[3]: "Every rhombus is a parallelogram, and a rhombus with right angles is a square. (Euclid's original definition and some English dictionaries' definition of rhombus excludes squares, but modern mathematicians prefer the inclusive definition.)" For me the best solution is to find a well-know shape that cannot be confused with the others, like for example a Pentagon. [Bug 450349] [NEW] kde-l10n-ca should be installed by default along with main catalan translations packages
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kde-l10n-ca ores...@oersted:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch) Release:9.10 ores...@oersted:~$ LANG=en apt-cache policy kde-l10n-ca kde-l10n-ca: Installed: (none) Candidate: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu1 Version table: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages kde-l10n-ca (and possibly the same applies to other languages as well) contains a mixture of files, many of which are necessary to have certain applications completely translated. But this package isn't installed by default, nor it is a dependency for the main language packs (language- pack-kde-* in this case), so some apps have incomplete translations. For example, KTuberling application (in the kdeedu module) can have some sounds translated (basically names of characters or objects) along with the GUI, but currently these translated sounds are packaged in kde-l10n- XX. Filenames are /usr/share/kde4/apps/ktuberling/sounds/*/*. As this package isn't installed by default nor by means of an automatic dependency, users have to remember (and know) to install it manually to have this app completely translated. Same occurs to other apps, as klettres for instance. So, please, either install this package by default along with main language packs, or put the affected files into the main language packs. ** Affects: kde-l10n-ca (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kde-l10n-ca should be installed by default along with main catalan translations packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/450349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 654742] Re: Gross mistake about palindromic years
Hello Daniel, I will not classify this error as 'gross', mainly because: * The sentence says "usually", it is not saying that this arithmetic applies to all years. * This sentence is part of the explanation of why the answer is valid, then it has no impact on the user (still accepting valid answers and making a valid question). However, a game that demands precisions to players should obviously precise when making questions and explaining the solution of puzzles. A more precise explanation will be: "From year 1.000 to year 10.000, palindrome years occur at 110 year intervals except for the end of each millennium that occur at a 11 years interval." If you agree this change, I will applied and it will be ready for next version. If not a more precise version is welcomed.
