Public bug reported: cdrom burned and iso image read from cdrom drive which wrote it and md5's match original iso (which match distribution md5).
booting cdrom on failing machine (cdrom, not writer, Pentium 3) and can run cdrom test which reports cdrom is ok. Try to boot ubuntu and get kernel gets errors on hdc (cdrom) at block 357566 which is at end of cdrom (and fails to boot). Why is the iso image 732 MB on a cd-r which is only supposed to hold 700 MB? Since the error is block 357566 perhaps it's just to big? (or something reads a bit past the end which is too far?) Can't run live... Old cd-r with ubuntu 5.04 (655 MB) boots and runs on this machine. Knoppix 5.1.1 will boot and run (730 MB!). The blank cdrom case says will hold 700 MB.... ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- 6.10 desktop boot cdrom: buffer i/o error hdc (near end of cdrom) https://launchpad.net/bugs/88819 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
