[Bug 340793] Re: cursor freezes in Jaunty Alpha 5 with Nvidia 180 driver

2009-06-25 Thread ginnyh532
I just set up the new PPA in my sources.list file, and switched to the
new driver (karmic). I still had to set my resolution manually. I have
a widescreen monitor with 1400 x 900 resolution, which may explain the
problem.

[Bug 345304] Re: Gweled segfaults on sound initialization

2009-06-30 Thread ginnyh532
I am having the same problem in Karmic. Gweled worked just fine until about a
week ago. Then, I couldn't get it to start. When I run it via the terminal, I
get

When I tried sudo /usr/games/gweled, that worked, sound and all.

[Bug 394900] [NEW] Kernel 2.6.31.1 broke my X windows

2009-07-02 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

The update to Kernel 2.6.31.1 caused my X windows to crash. I manually
ran startx and got the same error message, about a file missing. I also
noticed that Nvidia driver 180 failed to load. I am running Karmic

I have selected the last working kernel on the boot screen as a

[Bug 340793] [NEW] cursor freezes in Jaunty Alpha 5 with Nvidia 180 driver

2009-03-10 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

The package could be the Nvidia driver but I don't know. The cursor
freezes when I am in Firefox or checkgmail, but also froze when I was
playing Gweled. I don't have any screenshots to show because when the
screen freezes, I have a struggle to either reboot the system or figure
out what ALT combination will regain me some control. Please help. I
don't want to go back to Intrepid again but I can't use Jaunty right
now.

The last time I tried to use Jaunty with the Nvidia driver, my screen
also froze. That was with Alpha 3. My monitor's resolution is 1440 by
900. I am using nvidia-180-glx. The resolution is not set properly for
my widescreen monitor, either - but I could live with that if I could
just be able to use my computer.

[Bug 274124] Re: Sound no longer working after kernel upgrade to 2.6.27-4

2008-09-28 Thread ginnyh532
I checked the sound by starting up the game Gweled. The last time I had
problems - with the system sounds - it worked even though the logout and
other system sounds didn't. Now none of my games have sound.

I also checked system > preferences > sound again, like you asked. I
don't get sound even if I put the settings to pulseaudio or alsa. I
don't get any errors - I just don't get any sound. (My volume control
is set to its normal level, so I get a bit of crackling.)

Thank you -

[Bug 172890] Re: No system events sounds after login

2008-09-11 Thread ginnyh532
I am having the same problems with Intrepid Alpha 5, after having had no
problems with sound with either Gutsy or Hardy. When I first boot up, I
get a sound before my login screen comes up - but after that, no system
sounds at all. Other sounds come through OK. When I go to System >
Preferences > Sound, I have 2 tabs, Devices and Sounds. The Sounds tab
is grayed out and inaccessible. On the Devices tab, the first three
choices say Autodetect, and they work. The other Two, Sound capture and
Default Mixer Tracks, list ALSA and not PulseAudio (which I thought
Intrepid is supposed to be using). I made sure nothing that my computer
uses is muted, by going to the Volume Control applet.

Re: [Bug 340793] Re: cursor freezes in Jaunty Alpha 5 with Nvidia 180 driver

Even with the change in the Nvidia driver, my screen is still set to the
wrong resolution (the real one is 1440 x 900, as opposed to the 1368 x 768 -
if I remember correctly - that it is trying to make me use). I still have
to use alt combinations to close screens and still can't use parts of
screens that use a sliding bar if I have changed to another part of the
screen.

2009-04-02 Thread ginnyh532
It might help if I add that when there are multiple parts to a window -
like in Nautilus where there will be the list on the left and the
separate field of folder icons to the right, I can't use my mouse to get
from one side to the other. I have to tab until I've gone from the left
side to the right - or vice versa - and then use arrow keys. It's a
real pain to use the Synaptic Package Manager as well, due to not being
able to mouse between areas, and not being able to left click on the
files I want to add. Hope this helps.

[Bug 411216] [NEW] firefox freezes intermittently

2009-08-09 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180

I am having trouble with X not responding to my mouse. At one point,
the freeze-up was so bad that I had to resort to REISUB. Mostly, alt +
key combinations are helping me to get out programs. My mouse is not
the problem - it worked fine up until today. It started having problems
before I ran the apport updates.

I am running Karmic Alpha 3 on an Intel system. My mouse has gone dead
on me again so i can't look up all the information you might want.

[Bug 412713] [NEW] windowing system not responding properly to cursor or keyboard

2009-08-12 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

I am running Jaunty, after having run Karmic. Two days ago, I started
having a problem with Karmic where I could not switch between windows,
and my cursor would not work on menus. I could only work on the window
I was currently on, and then only after clicking the mouse cursor
several times or using alt + key combinations. Now, with my switch back
to Jaunty, I am having this problem with Jaunty for the very first time
since it was in alpha. Is there an old configuration file I need to get
rid of? It got so bad in Karmic that Firefox 3.5 would not respond at
all.

Update Manager does not work because I get a message that the computer
cannot get a lock on the cursor. If I am on a window as I am now, the
Applications and other menus do not respond. Please help me.

[Bug 523617] [NEW] Firefox URL bar is broken

2010-02-17 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

According to Synaptic, I am running Firefox 3.5. According to the error

[Bug 413697] Re: xiphos crashed with SIGSEGV in main_update_parallel_page()

2009-09-15 Thread ginnyh532
1. It was the first time I had tried to use Xiphos after a re-install of
Karmic.

2. I had 5 Bible modules installed at the time - KJV, WEB, ESV, NET and
NETfree.

3. I was trying to set the first parallel.

4. I did not have the parallel view open while I was setting the
modules.

I didn't know if ~/.xiphos/settings.xml will help you, because I
reinstalled Karmic Alpha 5 recently. However, I repeated what I did to
see if the problem still exists. I got Xiphos to crash again, so I am
attaching the file. I had to copy it out of .xiphos to get the browse
button on the form to work.

2009-09-22 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: checkgmail

I left-clicked on the checkgmail icon in the system tray to bring up
Firefox with my mailbox open. Instead of opening Firefox, my click only
froze my screen. I had to use Alt + sysreq + REISUB to reboot. I am
using Karmic Alpha 6, updated today (9/22/09).

[Bug 591997] [NEW] checkgmail will not run in Maverick

2010-06-09 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: checkgmail

I am running Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick Meerkat. The version of checkgmail
is 1.13+svn43-1ubuntu1. When I start up my computer, checkgmail is
supposed to start up. I have it in start-up apps. Not only does it not
start that way - but it doesn't even start when I hit Alt + F2 and type
in the command checkgmail. I have not been able to set up my login or
other information. I get nothing where I should be getting the setup
page or at least the icon.

[Bug 592051] [NEW] bleachbit install did not install version for root

2010-06-10 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bleachbit

I am running Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick. The version of bleachbit is
0.8.0-1. When I have installed bleachbit before, there was a version
for root as well as a version for a regular user. Now, only one version
was installed - the one for a regular user, with no password and no
special privileges. This means I couldn't use bleachbit (as installed)
to clean out my apt cache.

[Bug 516915] Re: grub-pc configuration fails during update

2010-02-04 Thread ginnyh532
When I ran update-manager this evening, grub-pc's configuration screen
showed up once again - updated. This time, I selected /dev/sdb as well
as /dev/sda and I got my My Book back. Thank you.

[Bug 436413] Re: Software Store froze and wouldn't respond

2009-09-25 Thread ginnyh532
I am having other troubles with Karmic right now, where I can only use
one window at a time and have a difficult time switching.
Unfortunately, I can't check Synaptic Manager to get you the version of
software-store while I have Firefox up with the messages on the bug.

There was no output when the software store froze. I couldn't control
the authentication dialog by any means - mouse, tab or alt combinations.

[Bug 508218] [NEW] update-manger crashes with message could not grab mouse

2010-01-15 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

The package is update-manager. I have been having this problem since
Jaunty Alpha 5. Update-manager crashes with a message about not being
able to capture the mouse. This also happens when I run update-manager
-d. (I tried to upgrade to Lucid because Karmic has been the version
from hell.)

Expected behavior - the update-manager would check for new updates and
allow me to install them.

Actual behavior - error message and crash. The crash is so bad that I
cannot run other programs afterward - the screen is frozen. Sometimes I
can recover by clicking on other areas of the screen and regaining
control.

I know I won't be able to fie a bug report on another problem - when I
downloaded the Lucid alpha 2 iso, burned it to cd (ok) and then tried to
run it to upgrade, I got a kernel panic. Why aren't we allowed to file
reports in launchpad without having the problem program up and running?
I am so angry right now that if I am considering using another
distribution.

[Bug 934019] [NEW] Firefox responds to cursor intermittently

2012-02-17 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

When I open firefox, the cursor moves with my mouse but when I click,
nothing happens. I have to go to the top of the screen and click on
one of the headers - history, for instance- and then click again to let
firefox know I don't want to use that particular header. Then and only
then, I can get firefox to work when I click on things - at least until
I need to change the focus back to firefox from another window.

[Bug 1039279] [NEW] winetricks won't install much of the software listed

2012-08-20 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded to quantal from a clean install of precise, I have not
been able to get programs I need to install in the Steam prefix when I
use winetricks. I have tried and failed to install mono28, vcrun6,
dotnet40, xna40, ie8, windowscodecs, or allcodecs (although several of
the codecs install before it dies). These installed originally on
precise, and I was able to play a game I can't play now (Terraria).

[Bug 1043533] [NEW] a windows cd mounted under /media/ginny instead of /cdrom

2012-08-29 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

I inserted a Bejeweled 3 CD into my cdrom drive expecting to be able to
use wine to install it. It did not install - and I found that I could
not locate the install executable in /cdrom. Upon looking further, I
found that the CD was mounted to /media/ginny/BJ3PCMC-EN instead of
/cdrom. I have a USB cdrom drive but that is not where I inserted the
CD.
