[Bug 271622] Re: keyboard shortcut for Application Launcher in kde 4 stopped working
Confirmed for Intrepid 8.10, installed from alternate CD yesterday with current updates. Removing plasma-appletsrc solves the problem, but yields an additional K-Menu in the control bar at the next login, where the Alt+F1 seems to work at the right one. Removing the left one of the K-Menus from the control bar keeps Alt+F1 function (even after re-login). ** Attachment added: "Snapshot of double K-Menu" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19234148/20081102.jpeg -- keyboard shortcut for Application Launcher in kde 4 stopped working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks Jonathan for wondering and taking the time to ask - even about two years after the original posting. As reported about one and a half years ago, I have been working with a workaround since. [Bug 136303] Re: [Gutsy] Thunderbird doesn't open http link in firefox
Alexander, so this bug by definition is none because it "only" relates to kde? If it came to gnome, you surely would have fixed it before release? But with kde, there even was no need to comment for about one year? John, thanks for your courtesy of at least changing importance from "won't fix" to "wishlist", even if indeed only kde users would ever wish this to be solved. [Bug 70729] Update to Edgy by alternateCD knocks down the system
Public bug reported: affected system is my (somewhat outdated) FujitsuSiemens notebook model "Amilo M Series", I used for installation (1) kubuntu Dapper LiveCD 6.06 LTS and (2) kubuntu Edgy alternateCD 6.10 (no internet available for installation). By (1) I installed Dapper, immediately afterwards added (2) to the installation source by "apt-cdrom add", accepted all packages presented for update in "adept" and launched the update process. "Adept" finishes the update process with a warning about not having installed 47 packages due to potential risks for other packages. Restarting "adept" only results to a message about a potentially corrupt database and the advice to rebuild the same by "apt-get". (Network configuration has vanished from the KDE menu after the update process. In this state I unfortunately have shut down the system due to rising anorexia.) After restarting the system there is no login screen but only the image shown at http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/download/3048/. Switching to a console by Ctrl-Alt-F1 is possible, logging in as a user results to some screens full of "-bash: /dev/null: Permission denied". Checking xorg.conf shows the vesa driver to be installed. Although I'm unable to further locate the error, it seems that either the collection concept or one of the packages on the alternateCD might be somewhat buggy. Kalinda, did you look for a line "msdfs proxy = no" in your smb.conf, removed it and did a "sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart" and your problem remained? Then this might be a different issue. Concerning downgrading, mrvanes said on 2007-03-24: "Downgrading samba, samba-common, smbclient and libsmbclient to Edgy's 3.0.22-1ubuntu4.1 resolves the problem." (see above). Chris, I admit that I would stop insisting, too, were I kinda sure this erraneous behaviour would not be generated again because KDE was fixed. [Bug 95460] Re: samba 3.0.24 on feisty is broken
I think it indeed is the same problem an in 90950: The samba share cannot be accessed from a windows machine either. (Checked from a virtual machine.) But I'm unsure if it is really samba that were to be blamed: The smb.comf manpage (http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/manpages-3/smb.conf.5.html) shows no option "no/yes" for "msdfs proxy" at all. Samba would not be held responsible for interpreting a misconfigured smb.conf! (Where it might be helpful to have samba check for non-standard complying settings and to skip them by default.) However, some yet unknown package seems to set "msdfs proxy = no" for every share when automatically upgrading from Egdy to Feisty. Thus, it might be no samba error (no misimplementation of the samba standard) but this unknown third part package causing the samba server to fail. Why I would judge this to be rather critical is the fact that this error only becomes visible after automatic upgrade to Feisty on server systems, while the vast majority of Feisty beta testers (for obvious reasons) will have done testing on clients! -- samba 3.0.24 on feisty is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I cannot confirm not having had this line before the upgrade (because I have no backup from the Edgy files). The information that the line only came with Feisty was a hint from a previous discussion after I noted (from the file date) that something obviously had touched the smb.conf during the upgrade. [Bug 95460] Re: samba 3.0.24 on feisty is broken
Chris, Ubuntu has come with a claim that was new to me (I'm no primer to Linux, too) when looking on Linux, where I was used to it as Windoze user for long: Simplicity to use. Period. Not only for some freaks but for the typical user who just desperately believes he will really get what he sees. And after my first impressions of Ubuntu, I admit, I was impressed: It really was that simple. And with Edgy, I dared to recommend it for exactly this sort of persons. Now, only one release later, I'm proven wrong. None of the freaks ever needed an automatic update service, did you? That's for those simple users around! But the most important requirement for any automatic service is stability. Nothing else but stability. I think you are right: It really is sort of philosophy. But exactly this philosophy seems to have changed: Stability obviously is no longer the ultimate criterion for some of those who decide what to include into a "stable" release, just being too nosy about always having the latest of every single package. Even if it required a little bit of manual administration. I agree, that I have to accept this where it is about a community driven project. But however, I think it's a pity. -- samba 3.0.24 on feisty is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 111441] Re: [FEISTY] mozilla-thunderbird crashed [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]::Length]
Got that crash report after system restart, where I don't remember if in this case it was a clean shutdown (thru the KDE system's K-menu) or a forced power-down because the system hung (with blinking cursor on black screen) while hibernating. In case this happens again, I will come back to this issue. Far before that shutdown, Thunderbird indeed had crashed, but without bringing up the crash-manager: If I remember right, it was in (or immediately after) downloading new messages from a POP box (I'm using only one), maybe when clicking on the Inbox folder (in the folder view) or after that into the messages overview area (in the main window). After that crash, I restarted Thunderbird with no further message and with no obvious errors remaining. Had an irritably high number (below 10 ;-) of spam, not yet recognized by Thunderbird's spam filter, though. I'm using the "Deutsch (DE) Language Pack 1.5.0.10" extension, "Thunderbird (default) 2.0" theme and no further plug-ins. -- [FEISTY] mozilla-thunderbird crashed [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]::Length] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111441 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71042] Re: nfs mount of SuSE 9.2 based resource fails on Edgy
Thanks Brian for wondering and for taking the time to ask. Do you have any questions concerning this bug? This indeed is no longer "an issue for me": As you may have expected, I've looked for possible workarounds in the meantime. In fact, I've moved the related files to another system, now having the same UID/GID's as (2) and stopped using them on (3). But the behaviour described above should still be repeatable, because all related systems are still up & running here. So just don't hesitate to ask. Thanks in advance for thinking about it, once again. -- nfs mount of SuSE 9.2 based resource fails on Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/71042 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hey, that's really a great strategy to company success! - After a bug report, just wait some years until the system is out of support: Most probably the user that reported the bug will no longer be interested in filing a new report. (Maybe he has indeed changed system because it was unusable, but who really cares!) Most important: The case now can be closed as "solved by waiting thoroughly"... :-/ File a bug report? [Bug 111441] Re: [FEISTY] mozilla-thunderbird crashed [...@_io_seekoff_unlocked] [...@ftell] [...@morkstdiofile::Length]
@Przemysław: No, I obviously cannot verify if this bug still exists. As you may (or rather may not) have read from the above, this was an automated crash report, for which I was unable to tell the actual reason two years ago. After some of those crashes, I switched back to KMail, which I still (more) happily run on my current Kubuntu Karmic. My work with posting this crash report was obviously not necessary for anybody. Thus, please do not expect me to do this ever again, as long as I find anything else to fill my time with. -- [FEISTY] mozilla-thunderbird crashed [...@_io_seekoff_unlocked] [...@ftell] [...@morkstdiofile::Length] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111441 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Przemysław: Sorry, you are probably the wrong addressee for my above rant. I don't worry about the community dropping work on my bug report after End Of Life of the related product. What disappoints me (and what renders reporting crashes meaningless) is the fact that a bug after being confirmed and decided to be of high importance appears to be purposefully ignored for more than two years until EOL. I really appreciate community work and I am (and always was) dedicated to do what I can to support this work. I once had the impression that launchpad reports made sense in this regard - but what results from my comments forces me to learn otherwise. (No, this is not the only one.) But I think this discussion is far from what this page is meant for. I will thus not comment any further. - Have a good time! [Bug 505489] [NEW] wizard req'ing JRE fail to start (solution hint)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer In OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (from the Ubuntu repositories), the letter wizard fails to start: After calling the wizard from the menu (German version "Datei->Assistenten->Brief...", translates to something like "File->Wizards->Letter...") happens --- just nothing :-/ And it's the same with other wizards (German version "Fax", "Agenda" and "Web-Seiten", translates to something like "facsimile", "agenda" and "webpages"). Sun Java 1.6.0 is installed in two alternative flavors: - /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre (standard installation) - /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre (manually added) Activating either in Extras->Option->OpenOffice.org->Java makes no visible difference as to the above failure. With Java deactivated (got this hint in a German forum), OOo complains (see attachment) - as one would have expected - about needing a JRE for starting the letter wizard and asks if the same should now be activated. The same error message contains a further hint: The package openoffice .org-java-common needs to be installed! (And indeed this solves the problem.) Where a package is vital for a function, this one should either be installed by default or at the very least be proposed for installation when the function is called! [Bug 676173] Re: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents
Update: Canonical support suggests fresh install of 10.04 or upgrade to 10.10. Both for me currently is a no-op. Further information about the system as from the support case: On my machines (with different hardware, but common NFS /home on a separate NAS device) Kubuntu 10.04 was installed "from scratch" using a CD download after April 30, 2010. All (and only regular) updates have been applied. Addressbooks were accessible through kaddressbook (in kontact) until an unknown date. The addresses from the (invisible) addressbooks are still accessible from within kmail (in kontact), there only appears to be no way to add or modify addresses - that's why I'm not sure about the exact date of error. -- kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 676173] Re: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents
Jonathan: The problem I need solved is the following: In KDE-Resources, there are three addressbooks installed and active: - /home/user/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf (vcard), - /home/user2/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf (vcard, read only) and - akonadi-resource Some weeks ago, I remember having had those three addressbooks in kaddressbook. Now, kadressbook instead shows two seeming empty addressbooks: - "Personal Contacts" (/home/user/.local/share/contacts/) and - "akonadi_vcard_resource_1" (/home/user/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf) After closing/restarting kadressbook, no addressbook at all is shown anymore. Same problem with the Address module in kontact. With kaddressbook erraneously showing those "empty" addressbooks (or none at all) rather than the installed ones, I can (obviously) neither read nor edit addresses in the installed ones. My problem is not only that I cannot read nor edit addresses, but that kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents. Did you mean to suggest adding the existing addressbooks in kaddressbook *in addition* to the definition in the KDE-Resources? [Bug 676173] Re: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents
Adding as "KDE Address Book (traditional)" appears to work. However, the resulting addressbook seems magically to be filled automatically with further addresses from whatever source - which is neither what I expected nor wished to happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdepim in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676173 Title: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 676173] Re: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents
Sorry for my panicking answer - it seems that only the last of about 1300 adresses from the vcf file were read very slowly. Yes, I can add entries, they are saved on closing Kontact - and after restarting, I can also delete them. Is this vcf file now duplicate defined in Kontact? - Even before adding as "traditional", the addresses contained in this vcf file have always been readable through Kmail (as reported in #3). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676173 Title: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> KMail in KDE PIM 4.4 is not Akonadi enabled and I think it will > read addresses through the old KDE Resources mechanism > while KAddressBook will read them through Akonadi. >From what actually happened to my system, I would have concluded to exactly the contrary: I had the old vcf addressbook defined in the KDE resources, i.e. in Akonadi. For some time, it worked fine with both KMail and KAdressBook. After some update, KAdressBook (which should "read them through Akonadi") failed while KMail (being "not Akonadi enabled") remained operational. > the cause was the out of sync NFS server. Er---how do you know? Up to now, I had no chance to fix the NFS server's date. In contrast, the solution was to set "the old KDE Resources mechanism" in KAddressBook (remember: which should "read them through Akonadi").
> Wiping the Akonadi database fixed the problem Nope, sorry: Wiping the Akonadi database had no visible effect at all as to the problem discussed. - The solution was (in addition to the definition in the KDE Resources) to use "the old KDE Resources mechanism" in KAddressBook. Another possibly interesting detail - there is another user ("user2") on the affected systems, having (almost) exactly the same configuration of addressbooks as initially reported. In KDE-Ressources, there are three addressbooks installed and active: - /home/user2/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf (vcard), - /home/user/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf (vcard, read only) and - akonadi-resource Both user and user2 have their own vcard file configured to be fully accessible and the other's read only. For user2, this configuration has remained fully functional both in KMail and in KAddressBook. No need to use the old KDE Resources mechanism in KAddressBook (nor to wipe the Akonadi database, of course). Had the bad sync of the local computer and the NFS server been a problem, shouldn't user2 face the same problem as reported above? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676173 Title: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 676173] Re: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents
> We found the error in the Akonadi logs and fixed it by recreating the database. Sorry for insisting: The symptom of the error initially described was addressbooks def'ed in the KDE Resources not showing up in KAddressBook, but however the addresses being accessible in KMail. I got you right in that you hold that *this* error was fixed? - Had it been fixed, shouldn't the addressbooks def'ed in the KDE Resources have reappeared in KAddressbook? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676173 Title: kaddressbook fails to show addressbooks contents -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
