[Bug 314928] Re: [i915GM] MTRR entry gets removed when restarting xorg - causes corruption on ttys

2009-05-03 Thread Eddy
Thanks! Fixed my jerky flash videos.

lspci -v

this gives me 2 entries to my video card amongst others, its the first
one I need which tells me the memory region (Memory at d000 (32-bit,
prefetchable) [size=256M])

my mtrr before:

reg02: base=0x07f70 ( 2039MB), size=1MB, count=1: uncachable

I then use the memory region I obtained before and enter

sudo -s
echo "base=0xd000 size=0x1000 type=write-combining" > /proc/mtrr

reg03: base=0x0d000 ( 3328MB), size= 256MB, count=2: write-combining

tada!

Fixed, thanks everyone

[Bug 378041] [NEW] can not play any video

2009-05-18 Thread Eddy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gxine

Hello all,

Hope someone can help me out.
I aready read a lot of simular problems about the next situation

I have installed Ubuntu (version 8.10) on a windows partition.
I was amazed about how simple it was to install everything and all hardware
where installed corectly!!! Also video and sound was not a problem
then I installed the new Ubuntu version 9.04 after the upgrade. I have some
problems with playing video. sound is not an issue. I get sound with a black
screen.

I tried to play a AVI file with all available video programs like>
VLC/TOTEM/GXINE/ Codeine etc etc.
All of them have the same result. I also installed all codecs ( restricted and
unrestricted), I also de-installed video tools and codecs and reinstall all
programs. also that does not work.

the avi file I try to play is one I have created with my digital camera.
So i guess if there is a codec used when making that movie it must be
one that can be played with all programs.

work around
the solution I found out now after many hours installing etc.
when I play the movie with GXINE the file can not be played. but when I keep
GXINE active and try to play the file with another program like VLC or any
other software, there is no problem???

Please help me out with this!!!

with regards,

Eddy

impossible (I send you also a screenshot of what appears when I try to install
the package). You can find my xorg.conf, too.

[Bug 362858] [NEW] X freeze - requires hard restart

2009-04-17 Thread eddy
Public bug reported:

Has occurred several times. It seems to be independent of the current
task or number of suspend/resumes. It has even occurred when the
computer has not been suspended at all since boot.

It appears as though system is still running, on one occasion it froze
during a large file transfer which continued and completed successfully
after the X freeze.

Next time it happens I will check to see if the laptop is still visible
on the network if this is of any help.

[Bug 158176] Computer freeze when machine boot up with 8180L wireless plugged in

2007-10-28 Thread Eddy
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from feisty to gutsy, with ndiswrapper and driver for
8180L driver already installed, the machine booting process freezes as
soon as it reaches the point where it tries to connect to the wireless

[Bug 158176] Re: [GUTSY]Computer freeze when machine boot up with 8180L wireless plugged in

2007-11-02 Thread Eddy
Attached is the output log for the command you suggested. It also
contains my current modprobe's blacklist.

This RTL8180 has never worked out of the box with Ubuntu (Feisty). I
always had to use ndiswrapper. It appears that the native module that
comes with it doesn't like it or something. In fact I had to blacklist
it in order to get the ndiswrapper thing to work. Note that the card I
have is the ver 4.0 which is one of those problematic one.

I think the funny thing about this is that the problem happens only when
I leave the card plugged and boot up the machine. If I don't have the
card plugged, the machine boots just fine. And when the boot is complete
and I plugged in the card, everything works just fine as before.
Something seems to be going on during the machine boot up. Also note
that it happens only happen when all the X graphic things are already up
and running. It's right after I supply the password to the key ring
thing so the driver can get the passcode to connect to the network.

I don't think the bug 132657 is a duplicate of this. In that one the
card doesn't work at all. For this one, it works fine but only that boot
time that has problem.

Same here. 2 nVidia 8600GT SLi cards. Upgraded my 32-bit from Hardy to
Lucid and immediately crashed on reboot. Installed 64-bit from CD on
second hdd (ran into the dmraid problem there, lost all data on my
primary drive, bleh) and every time I install either the 173 or -current
drivers, I get a crash on boot. Believe something wrong with the way it
installs.

[Bug 573557] Re: nvidia-current 195.36.15 + kernel 2.6.32 + dual cards crashes system

2010-05-02 Thread Eddy
I have the same problem. Just added an old hdd and did a clean install.

Hardware:
Asus P5NE-SLi Motherboard
Intel Q6600 Core2 Quad Processor
4GB DDR Ram
2x nvidia 8600 GT Video cards (linked by SLi cable)

Process was as follows:
1. Installed clean Ubuntu without problems
2. Logged in for first time without a problem
3. Installed the NVidia-Current drivers as provided by the Hardware Drivers
panel in System --> Administration
4. Reboot and get a blank screen.

At this point I restarted into my regular build and took a look at the log
files. Kern.log and messages in /var/log show the following lines:
May 2 13:22:01 eddy-testdesktop kernel: [ 266.445331] nvidia: module license

[Bug 573557] Re: nvidia-current 195.36.15 + kernel 2.6.32 + dual cards crashes system

2010-05-04 Thread Eddy
Tested on 64-bit Lucid

Upgraded kernel to linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic. (Restart required)
Installed package Nvidia-current (195.36.65-Oubuntu3). (Restart required)
>From a terminal:
1. sudo service gdm stop
2. sudo nvidia-xconfig --sli=on
3. startx

Drivers load and no further conflicts encountered.

I noticed you can still install the nvidia-current with the .21-generic
kernel. I suggest making a dependency for >= .22

[Bug 493382] Re: cant set background to space pictures on netbook remix

2009-12-16 Thread Eddy
I am experiencing the bug exactly as described by B1ackcr0w on an Eeepc
1000HE, with UNR 9.10 latest updates. However, I find that by selecting
"Fill Screen," I avoid the vertical squashing of the previous wallpaper
when selecting the space one.

Sux because the space one is the coolest looking stock wallpaper :-(
I'm getting by with the grass one in the meantime...

[Bug 476603] Re: Multiple firefox crashes and flash loads CPU to max

2009-11-16 Thread Eddy
My problem is very similar to the original report of this bug. The web
page that usually causes this is www.manager.co.th. This page contains
some flash animation. Each and everytime I visit this page, I saw
npviewer.bin starting to consume a lot of cpu usage, making the whole
machine super busy. Since I am using a laptop, the fan starts blowing
like crazy pretty quickly after leaving it on the page for a little
while.

Something seems to be running too busily unnecessarily.

[Bug 582644] Re: package ure 1.6.0 OOo3.2.0-7ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-06-10 Thread Eddy
Wow, this one's annoying. It gave me the same error, so I tried to purge
the OpenOffice.org files as Chris has suggested. Unfortunately, it won't
let me because it says I have to upgrade the package ure in order to
remove the OOo files. Unfortunately, every time I try and upgrade ure,
it gives an error "E: openoffice.org-emailmerge: Package is in a very
bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a
removal."

Is there a way to remove the files without going through an upgrade?

[Bug 590228] [NEW] package linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.36 failed to install/upgrade: run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/nvidia-common exited with return code 2

2010-06-05 Thread Eddy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-common

Upon upgrade from linux-image version 2.6.32-22.35 to 2.6.32-22.36, an
error was generated ("E: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2") and
the system stopped displaying information in windows (all windows came
up without any text, selection boxes, etc). Not even a terminal window
could be brought up. A hard reboot generated an error stating a recovery
of my root drive was necessary (which I allowed it to do). Upon further
inspection I found the error as stated in the auto-generated summary.

This is not the first nvidia-related error, and it may be related to a
previously fixed bug (# 573557) which failed to load the kernel on lucid
systems when there were two or more nvidia video cards installed on the
system.

Running the Update Manager or Synaptic Package Manager generated an
error stating dpkg exited with an error code, and instructing the user
to run "sudo dpkg --configure -a". The tail end is as follows:

[Bug 482991] [NEW] Brasero hangs at "Get Size" process on 64bit Ubuntu 9.1

2009-11-15 Thread Eddy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I am using the program to create a data DVD. After putting all the files
for the burning and click the button to start the process, the programs
pops up dialog showing that it's calculating size (I don't know what
it's doing). And it just stays there forever.

[Bug 1620192] Re: Sound over HDMI is 2x as slow after resuming from standby

2016-09-05 Thread eddy
Similar problem for me on Intel NUC. Sometimes this problem, sometimes no sound
at all.
Also, and sometimes, there is no sound on initial boot, which is sometimes
fixed by going to sound test and starting a test

[Bug 947567] [NEW] Indicator applet is invisible after install

2012-03-05 Thread eddy
Public bug reported:

Just after fresh install of the ubuntu 12.04 and all updates I've installed
indicator-weather package.
Hovewer no icon appeared on the Unity's top panel or in the Settings ->
"Startup Applications" menu.
I've launched the weather-indicator from terminal and it appeared on the panel
and in the Settings -> "Startup Applications" menu.
After selecting indicator-weather in the "Startup Applications" everything
works fine.
Not sure that this is a bug, but obviously there should be a more simple way to
add this indicator to the panel :)
Also similar behaviour had been exposed by indicator-multiload package, so the
problem might not be related to the indicator-weather itself, in this case feel
free to move the report as appropriate.

[Bug 1191193] [NEW] Minimize/Maximize/Close Buttons Inaccessible When Window is Maximized

2013-06-14 Thread Eddy
Public bug reported:

After performing an update to several system packages, I noticed that my
minimize/maximize/close buttons were inaccessible when the window is
maximized. They would normally appear at the top left of the toolbar.
Now, they appear in the same space as the window name. When the mouse
moves into this area, the buttons and menus (File, Edit, etc.) are
hidden and only the application name displays. This occurs with all
applications that are maximized.

System: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

[Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps such as SpeedCrunch, keepassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, skype, VLC crashes Xserver

2010-10-14 Thread Eddy
Same problem for me, I'm using maverick 10.10 with nvidia latest beta
drivers and xinerama. Every QT Apps crashes, driving me nuts. Goes away
when I unplug the second monitor and restart X Server. Tried downgrading
to the "stable" nvidia packages but no difference. Switching off
xinerama / unplugging the monitor resolves the issues.

I must add that my second monitor is also rotated 90 degrees. Will try
Kions fix in the mean time.

2010-07-08 Thread Eddy
Sorry, I should have posted this right after I figured it out. A couple
of weeks ago, I started going through things in a little more detail.

First error: Can't locate Debconf/Db.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1
/usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10
/usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/share/debconf/frontend line 6.

I checked the locations listed (/etc/perl for instance), and I couldn't
find a Debconf/Db.pm folder/file. After doing a complete search of the
drive, I found the file and created a sym-link to it in the
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 folder. I attempted to re-install the faulty
package, and it moved on to another error on the next line. At least it
made progress, but it led to me doubt a whole list of packages.

Through trial and error, I found my system to essentially have a faulty
debconf package. I downloaded the current package from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/debconf and tried to re-install. This
time, everything went well.

I wound up using dpkg due to synaptic and apt-get insisting that I fix
my broken packages first.

Again, sorry I didn't post right after I figured it out.

I have an HP mini 1000 with Jaunty UNR on it. Arnaud's fix works
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/318942/comments/44)

solve it. Tried Maurico's post

[Bug 257724] Re: vnc4server startup script error

2008-10-18 Thread Eddy Mulyono
Test in intrepid:
0. sudo apt-get install vnc4server
1. vncserver
2. vncserver -kill :1
3. edit ~/.vnc/xstartup to be:
  unset SESSION_MANAGER
  exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
4. vncserver
5. Open "Remote Desktop Viewer"
6. "Connect" to "localhost:13"

Expected:
GNOME session starts.

Bug:
Nothing starts.

I think the bug is in xinit. I checked Fedora 9, and they have xinitrc
set to 755.

I modified xinit-1.0.9-2 to, at postinst, chmod o+x xinitrc.

[Bug 264191] Re: python-django FFe for 1.0

2008-09-15 Thread Eddy Mulyono
@Scott:
> Are you close to a final debdiff for this?

If I understand correctly, I should debdiff python-
django_0.96.2-1ubuntu2 against my python-django_1.0-1ubuntu1~ppa3.

Am I correct? (The deb.diff is 15.2 MB. Should I upload it anyway?)

I didn't get much further than https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/python-django/+bug/264191/comments/24

It runs most tests in the test suite, minus some tests that require
networking, and the FileSaveRaceConditionTest.

According to James Bennet, that last item is not a Django bug. Getting
it "fixed" will require me to probe into pbuilder/chroot/soyuz/buildbot-
land, which I don't think I'll be able to finish before Intrepid's
launch.

Other than that, though, I've been using my 1.0-1ubuntu1~ppa3, and it
works fine for me.

> Please remember to do it as a merge from the current Ubuntu version to
that the Ubuntu change history is preserved.

* Django 1.0 is slated for 1.0 within a week (around september 6-7, 2008).
Because intrepid is "Supported until April 2010", it's better to carry 1.0
rather than the 0.96 series.

[Bug 264191] Re: python-django FFe for 1.0

2008-09-04 Thread Eddy Mulyono
> OK. Who can test this package?

In my PPA , I packaged
1.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1 using 1.0~beta2+ds-1 packaging information, adding
some instructions to run Django's testsuite.

1.0 passes almost all the tests:
https://launchpad.net/~eddymul/+archive/+build/708241

In order for the testsuite to run in the PPA builder, I had to disable
tests that needs network connectivity in
tests.regressiontests.forms.fields.

I also had problem with
tests.regressiontests.file_storage.tests.FileSaveRaceConditionTest in my
computer, so I disabled that in my build. In my next PPA build, I will
to enable this FileSaveRaceConditionTest.

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17282477/python-
django_1.0-0ubuntu1%7Eppa1.diff.gz

I will:
1. port my test-suite rules and patches to Debian unstable's 1.0-1
2. enable FileSaveRaceConditionTest
3. report back my testing results

Django automatically skips some tests from its testsuite if it's missing

@Scott: I think that post refers to a Django app, not Django itself. So,
we probably don't want those patches.

FileSaveRaceConditionTest is giving me trouble. Sometimes it passes,
sometimes it doesn't (in both my local pbuilder and LP Soyuz). Django
upstream folks are also having problem with it with their BuildBot. I
choose to remove this test for now.

But I think it's safe to say that unstable's python-django_1.0-1 is
stable enough to sync from. Attached is my "run most tests" patch

[Bug 188218] Re: git-core doesn't install bindings for emacsen

2008-04-15 Thread Eddy Mulyono
steps to reproduce:
1. apt-get install emacs git-core
2. open emacs
3. M-x git-status

expected: (emacs prompts for a path, then) magic happens

observed: no such command.

new patch fixes this issue in hardy.

[Bug 188218] Re: git-core doesn't install bindings for emacsen

2008-04-21 Thread Eddy Mulyono
Upstream prefers not to depend on debhelper. I'm "inlining" some of the
debhelper commands, but currently, this only works for emacs (vs. other
emacsen).

Resulting package is in my PPA version 1.5.4.3-1ubuntu3~ppa2. Works for
emacs.

[Bug 188218] Re: git-core doesn't install bindings for emacsen

2008-05-06 Thread Eddy Mulyono
Apparently, my patch in comment 6 doesn't work in a fresh Hardy install.
:p

I will delete 1.5.4.3-1ubuntu3~ppa2 and rebuild with debhelper for now,
while I learn to unravel debhelper's wonders to satisfy upstream's
request.

Did *you* look at your debdiff?

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9099163/oolite_1.65-5ubuntu1.debdiff.debdiff

Your patch alters debian/patches/oolite.desktop...

Also modifying oolite-1.65/debian/oolite.install wasn't necessary, since
there is a dh_installdekstop line in the debian/rules file. Simply
modifying the debian/dirs file should have been enough.
