[Bug 299285] [NEW] Middle click in tab bar scrolls tabs
Public bug reported: Using Firefox 3 on Ubuntu 8.10, I've been experiencing a bug with the tab bar (and history window) when middle-clicking items. Instead of closing the tab (or in the history's case, opening the URL in a new tab) it scrolls down one, or sometimes more, tabs and then closes/opens that. It may be a Gnome issue, or it could be a Firefox issue. At any rate, I notice (in Firefox) middle click scrolls horizontally. Re: [Bug 282901] Re: Firefox
Hello Jonathan Thanks for the reply. I realize Konqueror is a KDE dependent-project. I use it on my Gnome desktop now anyway. I've been using Ubuntu since Feisty Fawn, (my desktop is actually still Feisty because Feisty runs smoother than the newer releases (on my older hardware), though I'll probably switch to Hardy soon since most of the bugs have been worked out and it's looking very solid). I probably shouldn't gripe about Firefox, since it's been a very dependable browser, but... To be honest, when I use Firefox now, I feel as if I'm sitting watching commercials. I also realize that this is a totally unfounded emotion, but nevertheless, there it is.( I liken it to the comparison between Google and Yahoo, - both are ad driven services, but Google disguises this fact more effectively) So when Firefox started acting weirdly (considering how solid it's been), I decided I'd had enough. I also use Debian Etch, which has IceWeasel instead of Firefox, and though they're one and the same, IceWeasel, like Google disguises it's commercial roots more effectively. Anyways, I'm ranting. I was really only interested in putting forward the idea that the Gnome desktop could a Konqueror-like browser whose only purpose it is to serve Gnome. Thanks -- Brad PS - I'll post this to the more appropriate Ubuntu features/brainstorming wiki. In the meantime, thanks for a great OS. After upgrading, flash sound only works when no other sound is playing. The npviewer.bin is not picked up by pulseaudio in etiher case, so I assume it's just using alsa. [Bug 289354] [NEW] Intrepid Ibex RC doesn't remember wireless preference
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 8.10 rc (as of Oct 24) IBM Thinkpad X31 Intrepid Ibex RC is not remembering wireless preference on restart. It automatically searches for wireless network, but doesn't remember which network I was using at shutdown, (which I believe is one of the preferences it's supposed to remember). On startup, it searches for wireless signal, then presents a dialog box displaying a network (though not the last one used), and asking for password (and this also has a bug in it in that the password field is pre-populated, and wont clear. ie. when the dialog box opens, the drop- down options shows WAP or personal or whatever, and the text-field for the password is full of dots which wont clear through back-spacing, at least not for the first 5 seconds. Placing the cursor at the end of line, then hitting backspace returns the cursor to the beginning of the line, leaving the pre-populated text-field intact instead of clearing the field). I bypass the problem by closing the pop-up dialog, clicking on the network icon in the top panel, and selecting the appropriate network. [Bug 272841] [NEW] Login Screen times out Feisty Fawn
Public bug reported: Login window times out. When booting, if I don't sign in within a limited time period, the login window times out. Nothing major, just a small thing. After a certain amount of time has passed at login, ie. the LCD goes to sleep, when I enter my user name, the loader responds with the message: "Wrong user-name or password", and I have to re-enter user-name and password. Seems to me the window should return a message saying something like: Login timed out, please re-enter user-name and password. Little things like this can make all the difference in customer confidence. I haven't tested in Hardy Heron to see if the issue is repeatable. Re: [Bug 272841] Re: Login Screen times out Feisty Fawn
Hello -- I meant that I do nothing at all. Sometimes I'll hit the start button on my computer(s), then do something else while it goes through the boot cycle. If I leave it for too long, (probably the default screen-sleep/suspend/hibernate setting 5-10min), then come back to it, wake up the screen by moving the mouse or entering a space on the space-bar, and enter my user-name, I get the results described in my report. It's not really a problem. It's just not very flattering to the OS. Thanks. [Bug 272841] Re: Login Screen times out Feisty Fawn
I meant doing nothing other than turning the computer on and walking away while it goes through it's boot cycle. (about 1.5min on my thinkpad and p4 desktop ), then coming back to it after 5 or more minutes have elapsed, (this probably has something to do with the default screensaver function). Because it only happens if I wait long enough for the LCD to go to sleep. I found the fix for this one. 1. System > Preferences > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings. 2. Scroll down and open "Scale" under the Window Management section. 3. Go to the Bindings Tab and open the first "Initiate Window Picker" configuration. 4. Choose a corner. This allows you to zoom out and see all your windows to choose one. 5. [Bug 350436] Re: Kernel panic in gutsy 8.10 on HP 530j
** Summary changed: - Kernel panic in gutsy 8.10 + Kernel panic in gutsy 8.10 on HP 530j ** Description changed: Shortly after booting the 8.10 live cd, I get a panic and the leds on the keyboard blink. I was able to try to boot a few times, and managed to drop to a text prompt before it crashes, and this is a snippet, the only amount I could capture. [Bug 151956] Re: Gutsy RC1 LiveCD can't find flashplugin-nonfree when using install plugin on firefox
1) we're *not* sticking flashplugin-nonfree on the cd. Just. No. Hmm, I don't really care if it is on the cd so much as I care that it installs as it did with feisty while using the livecd. If it wasn't on the livecd for feisty, then I don't really think it should be for gutsy either... 2) It's not in universe. it has never been in universe. it never *will* be in universe. Ok, well that is fine, I guess all that really says is that feisty itself was never pulling it from universe either. That really isn't a big problem for me... Probably just a mistake by the previous commenter. 3) it's in multiverse, and we don't enable that by default (afaik). Well, from the times I remember booting from the livecd with feisty, I don't recall multiverse ever being enabled in the sources.list. So I think you are probably right about that, but I do know the plugin still installed. So whether that means that clicking install plugin in firefox was somehow smart enough to pull the plugin from multiverse without it actually being enabled in the sources file and updated, I am not sure. What I am sure of is that whatever it was doing in feisty, it no longer is doing in gutsy, sadly... 3.5) No, apparently we *do* add multiverse by default now. As I think I heard you say in the channel, that is probably true after an installation. And it did appear as though once I manually added the multiverse line in sources.list and updated that it finally could find the plugin, but what perplexes me is why the behavior has changed from feisty to gutsy. From the perspective of anyone used to being able to this behavior, gutsy will now seem like a downgrade. It is arguable whether anyone should be doing this on a livecd at all, but then again this seems like exactly the kind of thing a livecd SHOULD be allowing people to do. Especially for scenarios where people want to test Ubuntu and ensure that everything they need or want to do will work, BEFORE they install. Hopefully someone who knows more about what feisty was doing, and what changed in gutsy can look at this and get this resolved. I would also love if anyone else who still has a feisty cd, if they could boot and replicate the installation of the flash plugin and confirm for me that it really IS installing on feisty without enabling multiverse, because I am pretty sure it was. Regardless of whether it should have been doing that or not, the process was simpler and smoother in feisty especially to people new to Ubuntu. -- Gutsy RC1 LiveCD can't find flashplugin-nonfree when using install plugin on firefox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151956 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 151956] Gutsy RC1 LiveCD can't find flashplugin-nonfree when using install plugin on firefox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I am not sure if this is related to bug #139138, but the behavior I see is sorta similar, other than it isn't actually installing the flash plugin even after restarting firefox. Firefox shows me two options, Gnash and the Adobe flash plugin. When I select it, it pops up a dialog with a red x saying Can not find 'flashplugin-nonfree'. After closing the dialog, it shows a dialog saying it successfully installed, but when trying to view flash content it clearly isn't installed. Also restarting firefox doesn't have any effect, it simply asks again to install plugins. [Bug 33673] Re: Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop
I'd like to confirm this bug. If gedit is running, but is underneath another running application, (in my particular case it was Evolution), and logout is initiated, (shut down), and the gedit document hasn't been saved, the dialog box, to save or discard, opens underneath the currently running application, causing the system-shutdown to stall, with no way to get at the dialog box, (the curser moves, but (close)application wont respond. Maybe something like an "always on top" could be added to gedit's dialog pop-ups to make sure they can jump to the uppermost window? My system is a Pentium4, Ubuntu 7.0.4 (all current updates). hello -- I have the same problem --- Screem just shuts down for no apparent reason. I notice you say it happens when you try to work on css or php files, and I've noticed the same thing. Re: [Bug 75170] Re: Dapper installer keeps crashing
Hello, Thanks for the response! The memory was one of the first things that I checked, and it seems normal. In answer to your question, yes, the Dapper installer was crashing in the same spot each time. However, I don't think it was the password, I belive it was the user name which happened to be "operator". I seem to remember there is an "operator" install option? Could that have triggered a interupt during the setup/install? Once I changed the user name to something other than "operator" I had no problems. Just to make sure, I went through the process two more times, one with "operator" user name, another time without. The installer crashed again during the "operator" username install. Like I said, once I changed the name, I was able to install Dapper. In fact, I'm looking forward to setting everything up when I get home from work. [Bug 66963] Re: pci_set_power_state errors in tty0 console
Very nice find.. that has to be our problem! Quote: "Hmm.. 3c59x.c seems to do pci_set_power_state() without checking if it is supported; and it seems it can do it when userland asks it to. You may want to try killing daemons one-by-one to see which one triggers that. Perhaps pci should not complain when it is asked to do transitions on non-power-managable hardware?" They have a patch which has been approved for openSUSE. -- pci_set_power_state errors in tty0 console https://launchpad.net/bugs/66963 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
