[Bug 222381] [NEW] Hardy install stops at initramfs
Public bug reported: I searched for this problem in Google and found a "solution" at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=767154 Alas, it does not work for me. I inserted a floppy. It seeked it, but came to initramfs again. Then I write enabled the floppy. Then it seeked it not (just lit the LED), but came to initramfs again. I removed all USB card readers etc, disabled the serial and parallel ports etc - all the same. It stops at initramfs and I am not able to get it move on... Sorry if it has been reported elsewhere. I read readmes but this is the first time I use LaunchPad. Feel free to move this to appropriate place and mail me how to get it right next time. Now I have found this in other keywords (where I would not have dreamed about that eg. in "casper", Bug #195993) so it seems double but I do not know how to delete this... really sorry. [Bug 195993] Re: Install CD dumps to busybox after toggling floppy
I also have this on my Asus mainboard AMD64 machine, the i386 and the amd64 images I burned fail both back to the initramfs/busybox prompt (whatever that is, I am not a guru). It makes no difference if there is a floppy in the drive or not. The first time it seeked the floppy several times, since that it does not (lits only the LED) but does not boot. I tried the CD (the i386 one) on an IBM T42 Laptop in VMWare, is OK. I tried it on an hp compaq d330, it is ok (without any floppy). What can one do to get the SW installed? I have currently a gutsy 386 on my 64-bit-AMD-box and am very happy with it, but wanted to install also a 64-bit version now hearing that it is really stable now. Another question, shall this problem also have an impact on the "normal" upgrade procedure, have I have to be afraid to get my gutsy destroyed instead of upgrading to Hardy? [Bug 562027] Re: openoffice: unable to shutdown / reboot / logout when quickstarter is active
I am not really sure if it is the same bug for it seems to be irrelevant of openoffice and happens to me even after uninstalling openoffice: the indicator applet shutdown option (or restart) does only restart x (without flashing up an office window mentioned above). And this happens not always, only 2/3 of the cases. In these cases only a terminal shutdown is an option, then the X-Login screen's "shutdown" buttons right lower corner also do not do nothing. As I asked elsewhere, can this be raletd to the HAL drop issue? I found several different threads with this shutdown problem and am still searching, so I found this page which seems to handle the same (?) or similar (?) or brother (?) bug of my problem. [Bug 576367] Re: After upgrading to Lucid Lynx, power button won't shut the computer down
"(=!%"!)"!% my text has gone. I have to retype the whole. Grunt. And sorry for the empty post up there. So here it goes again: I have same behavior on my 32 bit intel machine, upgraded in the timeline slowly, chain from gutsy upwards up to lucid. Sometimes the power button dropdown menu has also hibernate and sleep in ti, then it also works. Sometimes not, just shutdown and restart, then it does not work, either menu item just restarts X. In this case the powerbutton down right also does not work. I have to relogin, open term and sudo a shutdown with halt to get the box down. I never have this on my other box (amd64, installed karmic and upgraded to lucid). There it always works. Maybe this is a consequence of dropping HAL Support? Anyway very annoying, and also distrusting then if something is broken then it gets fixed, but if something is times ok and times broken, it makes me distrust in the whole system. [Bug 877768] Re: Webcam not working after upgrade from Natty to Oneiric
This seems to be something really related to oneiric (if coupled kernel or not), for all the cams worked in natty and none works in oneiric, despite of upgrading from 11.04 or install 11.10 from scratch. Is there any update here? As this bug is "unassigned", can we hope for a solution? Would be silly to buy a new webcam just because having upgraded the software (and not silly but impossible with all the embedded webcams). Ubuntu claims "it just works! - but it is annoying if with an upgrade "it just does not work" any more... I am an end user so I have not too much possibilities to do anything relevant here, just cry for help and I hope my crying is heard... Until there is some solution I deleted oneiric and reinstalled natty on my "production" machine for I need the webcam functionality. Perhaps one should not stick to the 6-monts-rhytm with "new" releases if in every release there is that much neww that there is always something wrong. [Bug 877768] Re: My webcam is not working after upgrade from Natty to Oneiric
Same here: After the upgrade to Oneiric, my old webcam is not recognized anymore. Webcam is: Bus 002 Device 005: ID 041e:4052 Creative Technology, Ltd Live! Cam Vista IM Webcam light is ON. Webcam worked in cheese and skype and googletalk until 11.04 - now not any more. It also does not work on a brand new fresh install from scratch of 11.10. All SW says "No device connected". I tried LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so" skype and no help. I installed gtk2-engines-pixbuf - still no help. I unfortunately am still too "blonde" to handle upstream or kernel issues or bugs so please answer here if there is any help. [Bug 518345] Re: No longer authorized to mount USB disks
Hi, I am sorry to have set this bug incomplete again - it was incomplete until now (for me) for I suddenly noticed this issue now (for about an hour, exactly). I could mount CDs w/o problems, but no USB sticks. I tried all the workarounds mentioned here (and elsewhere) but no success. Then I read someone's note "the before-last-update brought me this error and the very last update eliminated it again". So I went to update manager and checked if there is something new (i update about once a week). It showed up a new gdm among the updates (I suppose that was the problem source) and after installing the today-update-package (and rebooting the machine; before reboot it was no change but I assumed the new gdm had to be reloaded so I rebooted) and after the reboot the error is off - I can mount USB again. So I would set it back to expired but I can not. Please take it off again for it seems to be really expired for it is now OK also on my machine. Thanks for your patience. I really appreciate from the Linux/Ubuntu community the immense work and the possibility to find solutions for every problem - until now I always found solutions to any problems I had. And sorry again for revitalising this bug unnecessarily. [Bug 576367] Re: After upgrading to Lucid Lynx, power button won't shut the computer down
This bug still is marked "New" and "Unassigned" though it is NOT new and higly recommended to assign to someone that something happens. I hoped the issues goes away with the newer kernel but after more than two months it still affect me and I did not find any solution ant that annoys me very much. The problem is seemingly not in the kernel and not in the applet (ind- appl-compl does the same as ind-appl-session) but somewhere else. The options "hibernate" and "suspend" are missing in those cases where the "shutdown" and "restart" options of the applet menu do not shutdown or restart but just logout from the X session. I wonder why nobody cares about this, it is really not the philosophy of "Ubuntu is software that just works". If I can not trust my system behaving always solid in such really ground level things, how should I trust it enough to recommend my company to install Ubuntu Servers in its production instead of the MS servers they have now? For I wished they used Linux instead of MS...
