Hi, I am sorry to have set this bug incomplete again - it was incomplete until now (for me) for I suddenly noticed this issue now (for about an hour, exactly). I could mount CDs w/o problems, but no USB sticks.
I tried all the workarounds mentioned here (and elsewhere) but no success. Then I read someone's note "the before-last-update brought me this error and the very last update eliminated it again". So I went to update manager and checked if there is something new (i update about once a week). It showed up a new gdm among the updates (I suppose that was the problem source) and after installing the today-update-package (and rebooting the machine; before reboot it was no change but I assumed the new gdm had to be reloaded so I rebooted) and after the reboot the error is off - I can mount USB again. So I would set it back to expired but I can not. Please take it off again for it seems to be really expired for it is now OK also on my machine. Thanks for your patience. I really appreciate from the Linux/Ubuntu community the immense work and the possibility to find solutions for every problem - until now I always found solutions to any problems I had. And sorry again for revitalising this bug unnecessarily.
