K3dsurf's icon is visible for about 10 seconds in the panel but then it disappears without K3dsurf starts. RE: [Bug 234726] Re: Upgrade 8.04 LTS errors processing network-manager
I gave feedback earlier that the problem seemed to have gone away after an update with some packages, but it didn't. My sons only told me later that they typically boot 2 or 3 times until it doesn't freeze. The reboots can only be performed with the power button (hard reboot). Two more things that may be helpful: I really believe this is an AMD issue. Pretty much all similar problems mentioned in Ubuntu Forums give AMD (64 bit) as the hardware. Maybe somebody should take note of this. In my case, I did not have to start any application. The freezes always occurred somewhere during the automatic login, leaving the Heron without panels top and bottom, or a bit later, simply leaving the mouse frozen up. The times it actually did not freeze up during or imediately after the boot, it worked fine afterwards (mostly Mozilla or Konquerer with its build-in flash capability). I have downgraded to 7.10 and leave it at that until a kernel after 2.6.24 is used, since that seems to be the culprit from what I got from the forums. [Bug 50263] KDE bug reporter requires working Kmail config
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kde I managed to crash Amarok a few minutes into my new Kubuntu install. This crash was nicely detected, but the handling didn't work for me: 1. It fired up a new Kmail message (nicely worded) 2. When I hit 'send' as suggested, I got a warning that no file was attached 3. When I continued sending, Kmail told me that it wasn't configured to send mail So the end result was a bit messy. Suggestions: 1. Don't rely on e-mail to send bug reports; send them directly over the Internet (maybe fall back to e-mail if offline). 2. Make sure there is an attachement, or that you don't refer to there being one (KDE's attachment detection is very handy but the end result here will confuse users). ** Affects: meta-kde (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- KDE bug reporter requires working Kmail config https://launchpad.net/bugs/50263 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50264] "Samba Shares" is likely to mean nothing to new user
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdenetwork If I launch Konqueror and select Network Folders, one of the options I'm given is "Samba Shares". It's difficult to imagine a user who has just installed Kubuntu onto their Windows box being able to make the mental leap from "Samba Shares" to "Other Windows boxes on my network". A better name would be "Windows Shares (using Samba)" (you can cut out the last two words if needed; credit can always be given on the following page, along with an examplanation that SMB isn't just a Windows protocol on the remote off-chance that anyone cares). ** Affects: kdenetwork (upstream) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed ** Affects: kdenetwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed ** Also affects: kdenetwork (upstream) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- "Samba Shares" is likely to mean nothing to new user https://launchpad.net/bugs/50264 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amarok After copying an mp3 to the local hard drive and either clicking its icon or loading it from Amarok's menu, I get the mp3 in my playlist, with track name etc. It seems to play through the track very quickly (under 1 second) and then tell me the playlist is finished. [Bug 560249] Re: ubuntu 10.04 install doesn't provide jme modue for jmicron ethernet
Hallo JFo, I was not able to boot with the daily-live/current amd64 iso. I have seen only DVD images under the link you sent before: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ The reason to use the alternate disk was that it was the only version with previous ubuntu releases that supported the creation of (luks) encrypted partitions. I'm not sure the lucid desktop versions can do this. The init ramdisk seems not to contain the module. But I'm unsure if the initrd or the squashfs has to contain the module. Maybe the alternate image differs in this point from the desktop image? I'll have a look tomorrow again. I have noticed this in version 1.4 and version 1.5 - awesome which I'm running now. Hey I don't think its worth all this fuss, I just didn't know any other way to mention what I have noticed, it really has no affect on the program at all, and I am no expert with these things at all, I know there are people that can just go into the code and change it themselves in 5 seconds, but thats not me, I just love using it and happen to notice spelling errors. [Bug 559091] [NEW] errors while partitioning/formating RAIDs during server installation
Public bug reported: Hi this is a bit difficult! This is a report for ubuntu server amd64 10.04 beta2. Our standart setup for server looks like this: / on /dev/md0 (RAID1) over /dev/sd[ab]1 /var on /dev/md1 (RAID1) over /dev/sd[ab]2 /tmp on /dev/sda3 swap on /dev/sdb3 The server I install ubuntu on was running suse before. It contains a 12TB RAID6 over 15 disks. This provokes the partitioning programm to display an error. This should be better a warning, because I don't want to partition a RAID6 but put the filesystem directly on it. See picture 1 (IMAG0010k.jpg) I want the partitioning scheme to be different than it was for the previous SuSE installation and therefore cleaned up the partition tables on sda and sdb. It confuses me with the display of a partition number on a RAID1 and unused space. After accepting the whole partition scheme (as shown above) the systems asks me how to boot from degraded RAID1 and then asks me to if I really want to write the changes to disk. I accept this and the it reports me an error that says it somehow can't mount the RAID on / (rootfs). I have no picture of this error because I managed to work around this: I went to the second tty and created the ext3 on the RAID1s manually on for / (rootfs) and /var. Then I rebooted and just reused the already existing partition tables. (picture 2 IMAG0012k.jpg) The I the installtion process went on and it accepted the /-partition. I hope this is understandable. I'm not a native speaker. Regards Lars PS: It was hard to get here. It should be much easier to find the button to report a bug! It took me nearly 15 minutes. [Bug 566149] Re: Lucid: No USB after resume on Thinkpad X201, T410, T410s, T510, W510
I was able to solve this problem in two ways: 1. I compiled the Ubuntu kernel source by following this tutorial:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile and using the Method B) for receiving the source. Before I started compiling I applied the patch Alex had posted in #18. 2. Now as the patch is in the mainline for 2.6.32.13-lucid I was also able to use the .deb packages from this link: http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.13-lucid/ I guess, the newer ones will also work. @Alex Thanks for the effort in solving this bug!
